It’s a rainy, two-show night in Gloucester

The way I look at it, a rainy night is perfect for music in one of Gloucester’s restaurants.  You’re not gonna fire up the grill.  Picnic on the beach?  Nope.  Dinner on the boat?  Fuggedaboutit.

Tonight you can catch two great shows.  Start at 7pm with local favorite John Rockwell featuring Dave Brown (one of the best guitarists alive today) at Alchemy (one of only 2 Gloucester restaurants with 4.5 stars on Yelp and Gloucester’s highest rated restaurant with music).

Then head over to Minglewood and rock out with Dennis Monagle, Ned Nugent and Mark Pelosi at 9pm.

Check out this video and you’ll know what I mean when I say rockin’

David Brown

If you heard any Billy Joel song from the 1980’s,

you’ve heard Dave Brown play guitar.
If you enjoyed Simon & Garfunkel’s “Concert for Central Park”,
you’ve heard Dave Brown play guitar.
If you come to Alchemy this Wednesday from 7-9pm, you can hear it again!
Gloucester has produced some amazing musicians, and it is a real privilege for me to have Dave join me this week. This should be good.
Oh, and don’t forget: it’ll be Ladies Night and there are some great food and drink specials.
I hope to see you,
John

Music for Hump Day & KBMG At Jalapeños on Thursday

I know it’s Hump Day and it looks like it’s going to rain, but get out tonight.  Fly as Ron Schrank as his special guest, Dennis Monagle has the amazing Dejas and you never know who is going to join John Rockwell.  See the full list here

KBMG will be at Jalapeños on Thursday to make up for the Water Main break.  Call now to make your reservation so you can welcome Dan King back to Gloucester.  Make your reservation now – 978-283-8228!

Follow John Rockwell around town tonight

This could be a record: you can see a the same local artist in 3 different venues in one night.  So John Rockwell fans are in for a treat.  And if you’re not already a fan, you don’t know what you’re missing.  It’ll be a nice night, so take this perfect opportunity and go see him.

If you bought an Irish Sweepstakes ticket, you’ll see John singing Irish songs at Gloucester House tonight starting at 5pm.

Then you can bop on over to Alchemy and catch his set with Robert Erinn Brown at 7.

And off you go to Rhumb Line to see him (and Robert) as Fly Amero’s special guest just after 9pm.  If you’re not familiar with John’s full, smooth, robust voice (Vickie says it has sex appeal), check out the video of John with another of our favorite voices, Sarah Slifer, nicely shot by FOB Joanne Silva.

Going out tonight is a perfect way to gear up for a great weekend of music starting tomorrow and to prepare for Friday, when you’re just gonna have to choose from among Cape Ann’s best musicians all playing on the same night.  Check the Friday schedule here and start planning now.

It’s a short month ~ Maybe that’s why there’s so much going on already

In fact there’s enough music over the next few nights that it’s gonna be hard to choose where to go out this week.  Here’s the complete live music lineup to help you figure it out.

And here are some videos too  . . .

More Orville Giddings videos here.

Musical chairs, open mics, special guests, family co-hosts, sing-a-long, smooth jazz scat … and more tonight

You’re gonna have to choose because they’re all going on at the same time.  See the detailed live music line up here.  If you go see Fly with his sister Linda & special guest Jack Senier on piano at the Rhumb Line tonight, you might want to see if Fly will play Mall Cop.  No reason.  Just cuz.

And don’t forget the premiere of Local Music Seen with Allen Estes tonight at 6:30pm, with guest John Rockwell and the TV premiere of Allen’s new song, which you can name if you like — see yesterday’s post about that here.

Name that tune – for our friend Allen Estes

Well, Allen’s done it yet again — another new song.  This one’s perfect for summer and could well be on its way to becoming a summer anthem for Gloucester and Cape Ann.

As Allen says in this clip, he doesn’t yet have a name of this song.  If you feel like suggesting one, just leave a comment and we may mention your name on a future Local Music Seen regardless of what Allen finally decides to call the song.

This was recorded yesterday for a brand-new Local Music Seen show that will premiere tomorrow (Wednesday, 8/15) on Cape Ann TV Channel 12 at 6:30pm.  John Rockwell is Allen’s guest. Two excellent voices singing wonderful harmonies and reveling in Cape Ann’s burgeoning music scene.  So watch the show and then run down to Alchemy to see John Rockwell live at 7.

And don’t forget about all the music available tonight.  See the full live music lineup here.
