Hello Joe-

I just wanted to thank you for posting the flyer for our benefit concert on Sunday, February 22nd.  This was part of our Rockin’ the Meetinghouse! Series in celebration of Black History Month.  Despite the wet and cold weather we had a fine audience and Gordon Michaels gave a stunning, humorous and wonderfully musical performance of Fats Waller songs.

Although some of the original lyrics were a bit naughty for a church performance, Gordon reworked them to suit and had the congregation roaring with laughter.  The ticket receipts were $1,065!  Even after expenses and sharing the proceeds with the performers a good sum was added to our Meetinghouse Restoration Fund.

The exterior of the 1806 landmark structure, which is on the National Historic Register and Gloucester’s oldest standing church building, is now nearly complete.  We are intent upon restoring the Federal Period interior to its original glory, including the beautiful horse-shoe gallery, for a total of 600 seats.  In the process we will be making the building accessible to ADA standards, adding practical elements like a lift, off-street parking and lavatories.  The auditorium has wonderful acoustics and we hope that it will be used for all kinds of community events, theatre productions and concerts.

If any of your Good Morning Gloucester members would like more information they can visit the website www.gloucesteruu.org or they can make a tax-deductible donation to ICC Meeting House Restoration Fund sent to 10 Church Street, Gloucester, MA 01930.

Thanks again for the publicity on your website, which has become the pride of Gloucester!

I am the events coordinator for the Unitarian-Universalist Church in Gloucester and a recent subscriber to GMG. We have a concert this Sunday afternoon, February 22nd at 3:30PM to benefit the Restoration Fund. It is the third in our series called Rockin’ the Meetinghouse! that started with Willie Alexander last summer. The current concert is called “I’m Misbehavin’”, Fats Waller Songs I never Got to Sing.

The 1806 meetinghouse at the corner of Middle and Church Streets is Gloucester’s oldest standing church building, is on the National Historic Register and has wonderful acoustics. Attached is a press release, photo of the feature artist Gordon Michaels, and a color poster. We would greatly appreciate a posting. If you use the flyer please credit Seaside Graphics.

Thanks for creating GMG. It is a terrific site that gives people close and far a taste of our town.
