Fred Bodin Submits Birthday Rainbows-
Birthday Rainbows
A double rainbow appeared over the Fort this evening. As I was outside surveying street lighting on the West End with Lucinda Seigel of Gloucester, we saw it and I ran down Palizola’s parking lot to take photos. Absolutely stunning, as was Donna’s picture. But then I saw four ladies photographing it and just had to investigate. This is what I got. No double rainbow at this point, but a story: They are L-R Christine (NH), Alissa Cohen (Gloucester), Isabelle (Beverly), and Deb (Gloucester). They had a birthday dinner celebration for Alissa on Main Street, and the rainbow was icing on the cake! Only in Gloucester!
Shayna Seymour reports on efforts to goose up Gloucester’s appeal to tourists.
Gloucester’s art colony; Sigird Olsen’s new venture; fishing gear from a truck.
Fishing rules and regulations shake up the industry; switching to lobsters; one of the Wicked Tuna captains
Gloucester’s own Mardi Gras, the St. Peter’s Fiesta; the greased pole contest.
This space for lease. Watch the video to get an idea of how great a space this is. 13 Huge windows gorgeous original moldings, just a fantastic space in a beautiful building in the heart of downtown Gloucester.

From The Trident Gallery Website–
Trident Gallery mounts regular exhibitions and maintains an inventory of art with a Cape Ann story — works of art having a meaningful connection to Cape Ann, Massachusetts.
Meaningful connections to Cape Ann are diverse in kind: some works depict or transform scenes of the region; other works are profoundly rooted in the artist’s experiences of Cape Ann’s towns, landscapes, and sea horizons, and its vibrant matrix of interwoven communities.
Following this program, Trident Gallery shows original and limited-edition works art in all media, concentrating on paintings, works on paper, and photography. Gallery artists are both emerging and established, and most of them are living today and making their art on Cape Ann. A diversity of artistic styles — representational and abstract, traditional and contemporary — reflects the diversity of the artistic practices on Cape Ann. Gallery inventory reflects the full diversity of the art of Cape Ann; gallery exhibitions emphasize contemporary art.
Owner and Gallery Director Dr. Matthew Swift draws on academic expertise, four decades of personal knowledge of Cape Ann, and four generations of family involvement with Cape Ann art to illuminate the connection of each work of art in the gallery to Cape Ann and show its place in the region’s history, helping patrons take fuller delight in the art.
Trident Gallery also curates nationwide for avant garde art, reaching beyond its usual boundaries to bring challenging and invigorating new work into public view on Cape Ann and foster the participation of the region in the ongoing global conversation of art with life.
Trident Gallery is connected, intelligent, and progressive. It employs cutting edge processes and technologies to serve its artists, patrons, and the public. The art world is changing, Cape Ann is changing, and Trident Gallery is at the fore.

The results from the national competition for the MUSE awards are in:
The HarborWalk Walking Cinema won the GOLD! Go Gloucester!
In our category – "Audio Tours & Podcasts" – the winners were:
Gold – Walking Cinema: Posts from Gloucester, Maritime Gloucester and Untravel Media
Silver – Riddle of the Room family, Barnes Foundation
Bronze – The History Explorer, National Museum of American History
Peter Sollogub from Cambridge 7 Associates tells us that in the history of the MUSE awards, they have only won a gold once: for the Patriots Hall of Fame! We are in good company. (and aren’t we in the Patriots Hall of Fame too?!)
Thank you Cambridge 7 Associates for designing a Walk with the originality and quirkiness of Gloucester. The Walking Cinema are great fun!
Best to all,
Sarah Garcia

h, my goodness. The nomination itself is an achievement. Gold– Congratulations! 2013 HarborWalk = MUSE AWARD WINNER
2012 Last year’s winner in the same category went to 2 museums partnering: the Philadelphia Museum of Art with the African American Museum of Philadelphia (gold). The silver went to the Getty (as it did in 2010).
2011 gold was LA Museum of the Holocaust
2010 gold was Chicago History Museum
2009 gold was Mauerguide: Walk the Wall (Berlin Wall)
There’s always competition and big players vying (eg Whitney and MoMa last year winning in other categories). It’s definitely good company to be in. I can’t wait to hear the complete 2013 list and see Gloucester in the mix.
Sincerely,
Catherine

Walking to my car tonight, I heard a circular saw running behind the old Valentino’s restaurant on Main Street. One guy was working OT to get it together for the 4pm opening of Short & Main tomorrow. Here’s a view of the main dining room. New decor and lighting, with a long bar and open kitchen.
Looks inviting to me! They also own the Market Restaurant in Annisquam.

I came across this in my grand dad’s glass plates..
I also have many shots taken ca. 1900-1908 of folks and a few of the Gloucester harbor…
My Grandfather was Edw Como, who for many years, sold men’s suits at the Empire Clothing Store and was a hobby photographer..
Thanks for all you do..
