Ed Collard Gives His Opinions On the Other Contestants
The last time we caught up with Homeless Ruth she took us on a carriage ride through the beautiful streets of Rockport MA.
We met when hungry Ruth wandered in from the street to chow down and participate in the Rogue Burger Challenge at Passports two years ago. Ruth stood toe to toe with Ed Collard and Big Lar in the second leg of the GMG Man vs Food Series at Passports but wasn’t up to the task of bringing down the big boys. Wanting to vindicate herself, she has thrown her hat into the ring and will be (as of this writing) the sole female contestant for the Farm Bar and Grille DTF Burger Challenge.
I’m very excited to have Ruth participate. Do not let her small frame fool you- she put away 3/4 of the competition in the Rogue Burger Challenge- She’s a competitor!

Doug Maxfield Has Responded In His Blog Post on NorthShoreWaterMan.
When asked if he would enter the Farm Bar and Grille DTF Burger Challenge this was his response-

The question thousands have been asking is if Doug Maxfield will step up and take the Farm Bar and Grille DTF Burger Challenge next Thursday night and compete against such luminaries as Ed “I’ll do anything” Collard", Frankie The Silver Bullet Gwynne, Jeremy The Great Jewish Hope Goldberg and Patrick Lederhosen Ryan.
Maxfield- The man behind my favorite blog NorthShoreWaterman, and the most honest fisherman I’ve never met has yet to be heard from but inquiring minds want to know if he will enter the competition Thursday night at The Farm.
Could we potentially see Maxfield’s name on the same plaque as Dangerous Dick Low and Big Lar?

Last night our own Patrick Ryan gave word that he is officially entering the GMG/Farm Bar and Grille DTF Burger Challenge February 24th.
He joins Ed Collard and Jeremy Goldberg, owner of Cape Ann Brewing as the entrants from GMG. we have two spots open. Calling Big Lar!!!!!!
Patrick was talking a big game last night and I personally saw him crush 5 soft tacos without breaking a sweat. We will see if he has what it takes.
This event joins the Three Stooge Challenge at Tucker’s Farm Family Diner, The Rogue Burger Challenge at Passports, The Farm Bar and Grille Hot Wing Challenge and The Farm Bar and Grille Corndog Challenge in the GMG Man vs Food Competitive Eating Series.
The Farm is the perfect venue for these events with the stage, the PA system, and the hosts- Ryan, Bradley and Noah who show everyone a great time in an atmosphere which is unmatched for fun- the Farm Bar and Grille!

Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together? Last year over chicken wings at the Farm it hit me. We had an opportunity to do something that’s never been done before and have an absolute blast doing it. The Farm, if you haven’t already been there has a huge back yard just off it’s patio which is set up for volleyball in the summer.
All we need to do is register teams and it was a no-brainer great time. So when Ryan Cox contacted me to ask me when we were going to get it done I looked at the forecast and it calls for 6 inches of fresh powder for Friday- the perfect set up for The First Annual Bikini and Speedo Dodgeball Tournament!
Now there is absolutely nothing better than when you can accomplish a win/win. But when you can pull off the win/win/win/win it’s the best of all worlds.
Think about this
Now I’ve contacted several local restaurants and we have 3 local Gloucester teams Confirmed. The Farm is fielding two teams and there is already word that there may be two teams from Salem bars.
The response has been overwhelmingly positive in the very little time since pulling the trigger (last night at 5PM) with most of the local restaurants that I contacted telling me they would get a team together. However I’m just going to put this out there that there was one local restaurant that I called and the woman I spoke with acted as if it was completely ridiculous and there was no way that she would play in a Bra and Panties Dodgeball tournament.
Now Really. It’s not like we are asking men and women to wear G-Strings. You can find Bra and Panties that cover up way more than you see every day of the summer at Good Harbor Beach. Who the hell would want to patronize a bar whose owner is so uptight that they couldn’t grasp the fun of a Bra and Panties Dodgeball Tournament and on top of that, Who the hell would want to patronize a bar which didn’t support Breast Cancer Awareness?????
It’s going to be a whole lot of fun.
So who want’s in on the GMG team? Sharon? EJ? Meg Lee?Alicia? David Cox? Thom Falzarano? Paulie Walnuts? Sarah Kelley? We need a team of five and at least 2 women. Also it doesn’t only have to be contributors, we can have our regular commenters on the squad as well. I personally will sponsor the entry fee for our GMG Team out of the TShirt money fund.
If your business or group of friends would like to field a team contact Ryan Noah or Bradley at the Farm- farmbargrille@gmail.com
Huge thanks to the Boys at the Farm!

The event is now renamed Bikini and Speedo Dodgeball Tournament.

Rogers Street, Gloucester, Massachusetts

Seafood Throwdowns were born at the Cape Ann Farmers Market two summers ago. This year, Seafood Throwdowns are back at the Farmers Market’s new location on Rogers Street.
Seafood Throwdown season returns to Gloucester this Thursday, July 15 starting at 4 p.m. at the Cape Ann Farmers’ Market new location on Rogers St. The reigning queen of the Throwdowns, Missy Hart and her Team Sugar Magnolias will once again defend her Throwdown title against Ryan Cox’s team from the Farm Bar and Grille in Essex. While new to the Seafood Throwdown, Ryan’s team is no stranger to competition and innovation as seen in their most recent event “The Farm at Sea” which was held on a boat.
Seafood Throwdowns are an opportunity learn more about our local seafood, local fishing fleet and fisheries related issues affecting our ocean, fishing economies and coastal food systems. Chefs Hart and Cox will educate and entertain you with their skills as they show how to work with whole, fresh, and very local seafood. Chefs can bring three of their favorite ingredients and once they discover the secret seafood they will be using, they get $25 and 15 minutes to shop the Farmers’ Market for ingredients. After their shopping spree, they have one hour to cook and present their entry for the judge’s consideration. This is a free event, open
to the public. Tastings will be available for farmer’s market shoppers.
The event is a collaboration between the Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance, Cape Ann Farmers Market, Gloucester Fishermen’s Wives Association and the Cape Ann Fresh Catch Community Supported Fishery (CSF). It promises to be a fun, educational and community-driven activity designed to link the importance of locally caught seafood to the health and resilience of our ocean.
See you there!
