Happy Birthday To The Schooner Lannon

The Family was honored to sail on the 14th Birthday Sail aboard the Schooner Thomas E. Lannon last night on her 14th Birthday.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- There is no more beautiful boat in Gloucester Harbor and going on an afternoon sail is a MUST DO activity for anyone- tourist or resident alike.

Do yourself a favor and book a sail here- Schooner.org

This will be a family collaboration post as The Bean and Snoop Maddie Mad both helped take pictures for the entry-

Enough Was Enough! Lighthouse Beach Discovered!

I had finally had it with seeing all these pictures and paintings of Lighthouse Beach.  It was time for the family to discover it for ourselves!  (thank you EJ for the directions on where to park)

Much like the Rocky Neck beach that the residents there would rather you not know about Lighthouse Beach is a secluded treasure that all my GMG peeps need to know about.  We spent the better part of three hours there picking periwinkles, romping around the beach and climbing the rocks without seeing another person on the whole stretch of beach.

Incredible!

The Mrs’ Stuffed Flank Steak Ready For The Oven

The Mrs has been on a tear using flank steak.  She cooks it a variety of ways and it is cheaper than most cuts of beef.

Cooking Fried Whiting With Sista Felicia Video at The Taste of The Times

Deb Clarke just asked me how Felicia seasons her fried whiting.  I answered her on Twitter but not sure if she ever got it.  In any case here you can see exactly how it is done.  Fried Whiting is my very favorite fish to eat.  I could sit down with a pile of salted fried whiting and a couple of cold beers and have an incredible feast.  The pure white flesh of the whiting is the tastiest fish ever.  You eat it like corn on the cob and the meat falls away from the bone easily.   In my opinion the most underutilized species we have today.  It also make an incredible soup.

Here are some pictures from a couple of weeks ago at Felicia’s house-

Fontana Family St Joseph Novena 2011- Must Watch Videos

I think you will really enjoy watching the videos that I’ll be putting out each day this week from the first five houses along the route of the Novena Crawl.  From the walking up the staircase and listening to the warm greetings in the Fontana house all the way through the fifth house at the Orlandos you hear of special traditions spoken from the mouths of the women who have been celebrating for generations.  Again I wish I could have made it to all 11 houses but my little ones were up way past their bed time.  I’m sure Manny will be releasing some fantastic footage from the remaining houses as well.

We start off at the first house on Sefatia’s Novena Crawl through the City at The Fontana House.  Tomorrow look for The Scola Novena, followed by the Russo, Ferrrante and Orlando Houses. One a day til we are out of footage.  Thank you to all the families for welcoming us into your homes and sharing this wonderful tradition.
