HAPPY BIRTHDAY ED!!!! Guess The Old Geezers Age!
You know those community people who are always there volunteering to help make all the good stuff happen around town?
Well we’ve got quite a few of them who just so happen to be part of the GMG team but my buddy Ed Collard is ALWAYS the first guy to jump in and volunteer his time to make others enjoy themselves in our community.
I couldn’t even begin to list all the stuff he has helped out on and if I tried to I’d never make it out of the office today. All done with a smile. The guy is truly special and I can’t begin to express how lucky I am to have him as a friend and confidant.
So be sure if you see the guy with the porno stash today you wish him a happy birthday. We will have some breakfast at Passports at 8:45AM and then he will be setting up the lights and buoys on the Lobster trap tree.
Happy Birthday Buddy!

Greasy Pole Work Begins
Pearson Pilings are being used. The pearson pilings use a proprietary formula which makes their pilings stronger than steel even though it’s much lighter.

PEARSON FIBERGLASS COMPOSITE PILINGS are today’s preferred building material for waterfront foundations, docks, piers and bridges. Our composite pilings are stronger than wood, steel or concrete pilings, and because they will not rust, rot or crumble, they will last virtually forever. Containing no chemical preservatives that leach into the water, our sustainable fiberglass composite pilings are environmentally friendly and are the choice of “green” developers of clean marinas and waterfront properties.

Greasy Pole Fundraiser Event Fall Classic Newell Stadium
Description:
HOLY COW We’re Gonna Walk the Greasy Pole at the Football field. For the Greasy Pole Fund, Contact Joe Novello, Peter "Black" Fronterio for walker and all other info, Rain Date Nov.19 Fundraiser Event Newell Stadium
Saturday, November 12, 2011 12:00pm-4:00pm
Here’s the article in The Gloucester Daily Times-
Have you ever wanted to walk Gloucester’s famed Greasy Pole?
Come Nov. 12, you’ll have your chance.
Launching its fund-raising effort to restore the Greasy Pole and its pier — damaged during Tropical Storm Irene, then dumped onto its side by high winds and tides Sept. 30 — the St. Peter’s Fiesta Committee is offering 120 people the chance to walk the pole during a program planned that day for Gloucester High School’s Newell Stadium.
"Out of the whole Greasy Pole structure, we were able to save the actual walking pole," said St. Peter’s Fiesta Committee President Joe Novello, whose group is seeking to raise $85,000 to fully cover the construction, permit fees and other costs connected with restoring one of Fiesta’s centerpieces. The drive has already received a $35,000 lift from The Boston Foundation, Novello said.
In the Nov. 12 benefit, the pole and its flag will be extended from a flatbed truck some 3 to 4 feet off the ground, with rubber padding beneath it to cushion the inevitable falls. And the first 120 people who sign up and cough up the $25 donation will get to walk the pole, in three groups of 40, Novello said.

ATTENTION RESTAURANT OWNERS- SOGGY FRIES SUCK ASS
So mid morning I get a call from Ed (do I even have to say his last name any more) Collard
He asks about lunch and I tell him to swing by and we will discus our plan of attack. We settle on cheeseburger plates from a local joint and I call in the order.
Me on the phone-
I would like two bacon cheeseburgers with thousand island dressing and two orders of fries. Oh and could you please be sure to leave the container open because I don’t want the fries to get all soggy on the drive back to the dock?
The woman assures me that they would put the fries in a separate container.
Ed heads out to pick up lunch.
One thing you can count on down the dock is that the very minute take-out arrives there will be two or three boats that hit the dock to be offloaded at that very moment. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t had a boat pull up to offload for two hours- the precise moment when the delivery guy shows up and you hand him your money you can place all your money on the fact that there will be a boat to offload within your first bite of anything you order. That’s just the way it is and I’ve come to expect that.
So sure enough Ed returns with lunch in two large paper bags containing our burgers and fries and heads up to the office to eat and at the very same time two small boats hit the dock. It takes only about 10 minutes to offload them and put the lobsters away and I bound up the stairs to the office where my burger and fries await.
Mr Wonderful Ed Collard hearing me on the phone asking the waitress to please leave the container open so my fries wouldn’t get soggy decides to pull a prank on me.
The rotten prick duct tapes the edges of the styrofoam container.![]()

Now you might think that because they punched a few holes in the top of the container that that is enough to let the steam escape and to salvage the fries but let me assure you that that just isn’t the case.
ATTENTION RESTAURANT OWNERS
Fries to go should be in either cups or those white clam boxes in a separate bag. I don’t care if you punched holes in the top to let the steam out, when you stack another box on top of it the steam still doesn’t have any where to go except into the moisture receptacles formerly known as french fries.
Limper than an eighty year old dude’s dick.
You might as well have poured some gravy over the goddamn things because they were like eating mashed potatoes.
I owe you one Ed.
Here’s What’s Up Today- 2011 Essex Clamfest! Live Blog

The Essex Division of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the twenty-ninth annual Essex ClamFest on Saturday, October 22nd (rain date: Sunday, October 23rd), from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Shepard Memorial Park in Essex.
The highlight of the day will be the Clam Chowder Tasting, a competition that pits area restaurants against one another to determine who serves the best chowder on Cape Ann. Many of the area restaurants are expected to serve up their favorite chowder recipes starting at 12:00 noon and ending at 2:00 p.m. The public (for a nominal fee of $5 per person) will also have the opportunity to sample and vote on their favorite chowder.
In addition to the Chowder competition, an interesting variety of activities has been planned, including an arts and crafts area; entertainment throughout the afternoon; the Lions Club food pavilion; an Ipswich Ale station; organization, church, and non-profit tables; a number of games for children and a health fair which will include flu shots. The crafts area and the rides will be open to the public starting at 11:00 a.m.

25th Blackburn Challenge; Joey: Send me a photo!
The morning of the Blackburn Challenge and Joey was having a GMG meltdown. Or maybe he was was giving birth to puppies. But we were getting ready to go for a long paddle and Ed and I had not sent him any photos. I was trying to set up my iPhone to send a GPS signal so GMG could track us go around Cape Ann but Joey was sending me a text message every five minutes which would kill the GPS app.
I did get a photo but forgot that it was on HDR setting. I emailed it to Joey and he never received it since it was so large. Today, I finally figured out how to get it yanked from my outbox. Here we are discussing racing strategy. Once Ed realized I had Sue set up to deliver us cold beers as we rounded Andrews Point we were all set.

Ed uses the Kodak zx3 and Kayalu Salt Waterproof Camera Mount to capture the Blackburn Challenge
The Kodak zx-3 and kayalu salt waterproof camera mount performed perfectly, especially when you consider Ed all thumbs and no eyes Collard was the operator.
I would say you have to give Ed some props for improved camerawork. Nice slow steady pans and no ground shots, Ed is definitely improving with his camera work!
we will be bringing you more creative footage with the waterproof camera and mount in the coming weeks.
