The Writer’s Book Club Event at Duckworth’s Bistrot

Chris Anderson ©Kim Smith 2014Chris Anderson

This past Sunday’s Writer’s Book Club Event, held at Duckworth’s Bistrot, was well-attended. Chris Anderson, the editor and co-founder of Eastern Point Lit House, led a very interesting discussion about the book The Things They Carried, written by Tim O’Brien. The Things They Carried is a collection of short stories about a platoon of soldiers in the Vietnam War and is semi-autobigraphical. O’Brien was Chris’s professor in grad school!

From wiki ~ The book is critically acclaimed and O’Brien has expressed surprise at how the book has become a staple in middle schools and high schools, stating that he “certainly hadn’t imagined fourteen year-old kids, eighteen year-olds, those even in their early twenties reading the book.”

Chef Ken Duckworth prepared a beautiful spread. I only stopped in for a brief period of time as I was on my way to film the Groppo’s Sunday evening Saint Joseph mass and was unable to stay to enjoy the very tasty-looking appetizers and entrees. Thank you Chris, Michelle, Jenn, and Ken for inviting me. Next time I look forward to staying longer!

Rhumb Line Thursday Night Blues Party

Buono ex post facto fiesta! Whew!…got thru another one without needing invasive surgery. What fun! Not being a “true” local, I dig it because I’m a true Italian.I know my whole family would dig it, too, especially if they were alive. Especially my aunt Tony.
Now, we’re facing another grueling holiday weekend, so gird your grid; here it comes: This thursday at the Rhumb Line I’m proud to present  Bob Davis, Mr. Johnny Carwash hisself…the man who put the mental in instrumental.  Behind him will be Roger Brocklebank, on drumns, and of course, Greg t. and myself. We’ll be mewling and puking our way thru a special program of  national anthems and patriotic tunes. I have no idea what’s gonna happen, but ambulances will be on standby. Don’t miss it!
And if you still haven’t had enough,

on Saturday nite the Musical Surplus Club of Hong Kong is proud to present: MADHOUSE at the MADFISH. Grill, that is… on Pocky Neck, here in  Globster.  Johnny K. and the whole aggravation will be a-hootin’ and a-hollerin’ thru yet another evening of madcap escapades and musical mayhem. C’mon down and burn your leather on the floor!

Well, it’s that time, again; good ol’ Fiesta is almost here, and I’m almost there. So, in keeping with tradition(?) Have I got a guy for you. Mr. Brad Foucher, glitarist of the axis mundi, will be appearing and disappearing all night long this Thursday nite wailing and speaking in tongues, trying to get it right. This guy is to traditional blues as Birdseye is to frozen fish.A good place to be as an alternative to greasy sausage and cotton candy.
