Things To Do- Art Haven Reception

From David Brooks-

Hi Everyone,

Some of you have probably already heard, so if you have, view this as a reminder.
Art Haven is having its One Year Anniversary on Friday, July 31st. A live art auction of staff work, food and drink from Latitude 43 and Pleasant St. Tea Co. will kick off the event at 5:30 pm. We are very excited about how far we have come in this first year and we would like to thank the community for supporting us every step of the way!
We really hope you all can attend!

Things To Do- Art Haven Celebration

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES:

Art Haven Celebrates One Year Anniversary and Official Tax-Exempt Status

GLOUCESTER, MA—Anniversaries come once a year, to celebrate the beginning of a good thing. The beginning of art classes for kids. Or the beginning of a new darkroom for a community. In the minds of Cape Ann Art Haven, the one-year anniversary this July 31st is an important one.

“It’s amazing to look back and see what a difference a year makes,” says founder David Brooks. “I love looking around and seeing the darkroom, the pottery wheels, and everything else that’s going to help us be an even bigger part of the community in the next year.”

To celebrate the benchmark, Art Haven is hosting an Anniversary Party and Fundraiser on Friday, July 31st from 5:30 to 8pm to celebrate being open for a full year and recently receiving their official 501(c)3 tax-exempt status. At the Studio on Main Street in Gloucester, a live auction and art raffle will kick off the evening of free food and darkroom tours. Student and staff artwork will also be on display.

Following this the Art Haven staff will share a presentation of what Art Haven has done and where they hope to go in the next year with the help of the community that has gotten them this far. Also, a tour will be leaving from the studio at 5:15 to unveil two murals painted by summer program participants on Supreme Roast Beef and Cape Ann Business Incubators.

“We’re excited to be able to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped to get us this far,” says Art Haven Director Dawn Gadow. “We’d love it if you’d all come out and celebrate with us.”

After starting with just children’s classes a year ago, Cape Ann Art Haven has now expanded to be a community place for adults and youth alike. What started as one room has turned into a multi-dimensional space for all kinds of art to be created and displayed. Painting and drawing, which dominated the studio in its early months, are now just a small portion of the creative activities going on in the studio.

Art Haven Block Party Plans

just in from Art Haven Director Dawn Gadow-

Hi all,

Although I know it’s probably too late to get in any real advertising or anything, I just wanted to let you all know that Art Haven will be having a beach day for the block party this weekend. We’ve got some beautiful big shells that kids can paint and do crafts with and make their own beach scene! There is also a possibility of making the shells into candles. So, if you could spread the word at all that would be awesome. I hope the week is going well for you all and I’m praying for sunshine on Saturday!

from Dawn Gadow-

PIRATE ACTIVITY AT ART HAVEN

GLOUCESTER, MA—Cape Ann Art Haven needs a crew: A pirate crew.

To go along with this weekend’s downtown block party, Art Haven will be offering kids the opportunity to become a pirate, eye patch and all. From 5:00-7:00 the Art Haven staff will be in the Main Street studio with supplies to help kids make their own eye patch, sword and bandanna. They’ll also have the opportunity to join the rest of the crew in creating a pirate mural on a real ship sail.

Following a time of artwork and creativity, students will then have their own pirate parade down Main Street at 7:00 to show off their new outfits. This event is free and open to the public; anyone is welcome to join in.

While at the Art Haven studio, children will have a final chance to register for summer programs starting on June 29, including Mural Painting and Darkroom Photography classes.  For more information about Art Haven’s summer programs, visit www.arthaven.org or call 978-283-3888

Art Haven -Andy Cleary

When I was out shooting St. Patrick’s Day window displays Tuesday, I stopped in at Art Haven to see the kids and their projects. Some were working on the windows out front, but my friend Andy was creating art from an old guitar. He had some cool stencils and spray paint that he used to create incredible designs.dsc_6345-small-a

I went back today to check out Andy’s progress. He wasn’t there, but the guitar was against the wall drying.

He said it wouldn’t be a working guitar, but it sure is a work of art!

dsc_6429-small-a Nice work, Andy!

A Sneak Peek at the St Paddy’s Windows Downtown!

dsc_6253 Take a walk downtown and see if you can locate these St. Patrick’s Day displays before we post the poll. It will give you a chance to see the actual windows and visit some of the store owners and their employees. dsc_6362I talked with many of them today and they would like you to consider shopping downtown. There’s  incredible items in all of these stores.

And the kids from Art Haven had a ball decorating their windows  for the competition.

Go downtown and check it out!
