Pint for a Pint Blood Drive

We are having our first drive of 2022 and we’d deeply appreciate any “getting the word out” you can for us!

Come join us for our 1st “Pint for a Pint Blood Drive” of the winter at True North Brewery. 116 County Road, Ipswich, Ma 01938, on Saturday, Feb, 19th, 2022 from 8:30 Am til 3:00 PM.

I saw a saying once that said ” A single pint can save three lives, a single gesture can create a million smiles” The generosity of those who give truly breathes life into the phrase “Heroes come in all types and sizes!” Be one of those hero’s – give a pint of blood and receive a voucher for a pint of one of True North’s award winning brews as our thank-you!

Since its inception during the pandemic when many local breweries stepped in as safe locations in which to donate, Pint for a Pint has a running total of over 230 pints of blood and counting! That means your wonderful gift has gone onto help 690 souls!

Come on down and be someone’s everything, you never will know the impact of your gift, but someone’s everything will!

You can register at tinyurl.com/trueF19 or at scrawney-morgan.org.

Should you have eligibility questions about donating: 617-632-3206.

Appointments recommended – walk-ins taken as time allows!

As a special thank-you, donors will receive a Kraft Family Blood Donor hooded sweatshirt! The perfect season for the perfect gift!

Photo ID required for all donors – Hydrate well, drink extra water and please eat before donation!

What’s Your “Blast from the Past”

What’s your “Blast from the Past”? Please share your answers. I was driving to the Tsongas Arena at UMass Lowell for one of Thatcher’s high school hockey games the other day and we went by this Haffner’s gas station. My mom was with us and she immediately said, “Well, that’s a blast from the past.” I had never heard of Haffner’s, but it did make me think of some other places that I used to frequent that are no longer. Some of the places I came up with were the Ben Franklin store in Danvers, the old and original Supinos pizza (FULL of creepy clowns) also in Danvers, Pennyworths (I think) in Ipswich with it’s swiveling stools and soda fountain, obviously the old Papa Ginos in Gloucester with the jute boxes at each table, the Garden Patch florist down on Whittemore Street, and many more…. I don’t want to share too many here because I’d love to hear your answers. What places do you remember fondly that are no longer here?

Snow Blanketed Beauty

It was deceptively cold in the sun under beautiful blue skies earlier this week when I noticed by snow blankets on some of our favorite sights. The contrast of the sun, snow and blue skies was irresistible.

Ron Gilson’s Coming Attraction Clip

Hi Joey:

In my blog, The Gloucester I Love -2, and listed in your GMG blog roll, I just posted  a contribution about  Gloucester’s upcoming 400thanniversary observance…(a year early).  In two weeks, I celebrate another birthday; the gas in my tank is running low….

I’d like this post to get a brief “coming attraction clip” on GMG, to announce it’s posting.

This blog summation is my life and Gloucester’s – in my opinion – most important era, The Golden Age of Fishing.

 Hello to all.

 Thanks, Joey.

Ron Gilson

Planning for another successful Magnolia Community Farmers Market 2022

The Magnolia Community Farmers Market Committee works very hard for this Farmers Market to be fun and successful.  Looking forward to this great Farmers Market.

Summer 2022! Now planning our FOURTH Season!

College Hockey

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, college hockey is where it’s at. Now, mind you, this photo is of my son’s Essex Tech high school hockey team playing Lowell Catholic…but they played at UMass Lowell’s Tsongas Center. We attended one of the UMass River Hawks’ games this season and had a blast. Great hockey, easily accessible, clean, and hopping arena, and super affordable. It’s always so fun to see college students rallying to support their teams. Take advantage of some of the great schools around us…..UMass, Endicott, Merrimack, UNH, and many more! Go take in a game….and with baseball and lacrosse season around the corner, consider college games for that as well!

Magnolia 525 Tavern Lives Up to the Hype

Once again, we found ourselves at the 525 Tavern on Lexington Ave in Magnolia for dinner and once again it was a great experience. On their website, 525 calls itself your local tavern; a description that really fits the bill along with the note that it’s a “hidden gem”. Comfortable bar and table seating, friendly staff, good food and drink each and every time that we go. For us, it’s right up the road and we look forward to our visits. This time we ordered a pizza and Jim had a burger. Though I did not have it this time, I also love their French Onion soup. Worth stopping by even if you have to drive over the bridge!
