Happy Eastah From Your Homies At GMG

My View of Life on the Dock

We have the company of my daughter Amy and our grandson Schooner (our nickname for him) this week which has been delightful. Amy works as an educator at the zoo in her hometown so a trip to the zoo with them seemed a natural choice. The drive to Franklin Park Zoo took maybe an hour so it’s definitely do-able. Though it was a little rainy that day, our luck took a turn when we were told it was opening day for their new outdoor gorilla exhibit! The family was out and about seemingly showing off.
The Zoo is a great take for families and children. Some exhibits are not yet open as they are waiting for a warm-up, but we were easily able to entertain ourselves for quite a while. I bought tickets online ahead and it was very convenient. Link here. I would put it on the consideration list for vacation activities. No, Amy will not be available as a tour guide……..

The fog always add an interesting mood to the day. And sometimes it can appear to look very different from another angle. Buswell Pond is a good example. I give it an eye nearly every day to evaluate its “mood”.

Sculpting Self is an inventive program that had eighth graders learning about the renowned work of Cape Ann sculptor Walker Hancock (1901-1998) while creating their own sculptures for an exhibit that will pair the student and master works together. They will be on view at the Museum, 27 Pleasant St., in Gloucester from April 16 to June 12, 2022.
The program was inspired by Hancock’s Basketball Series. Over 15 years from 1961 to 1977, the sculptor made sculptures inspired by watching the Gloucester High School varsity basketball team practice.
During the 2021-2022 school year, Cape Ann Museum Education Manager Miranda Aisling visited three area schools with classes of eighth graders twice to talk about Hancock’s work and to teach the students how to create their own wire armature…

Our Ospreys on the Annisquam River, next to Lobstaland, are back on their regular nesting platform, and Essex County Greenbelt’s live camera is back in operation. Visit their website at ecga.org/Osprey-Cam to see the action and read the updates on what’s been going on, this year and last. Here are a few screen shots from the camera.
