Extra Sweet on the Boulevard

These youngsters were offering cold drinks on a hot afternoon along the boulevard yesterday. Who could resist? Thank you Violet, Felicity, Caleb, Johnny and mom-in-charge Bonnie (who was camera shy) for the refreshing idea! You really brightened our day.

Uhmmm… Anyone know where the third windmill blade went? #GloucesterMA Updated with drone footage- Update Gloucesree Press Release:

Unconfirmed report that it was struck by a plover overnight. I’m sending an investigative team up there to check it out.

Here’s the scene this morning as reported by Captain Pete Mondello:

He reports there are no cranes up there, that the blade is over the embankment in bushes and there is security keeping people out (a good idea it seems)

City of Gloucester and Gloucester Fire Department Respond to Wind Turbine Failure and Share Road Closure

Mayor Greg Verga and Fire Chief Eric Smith report that the City of Gloucester and multiple city agencies responded to a mechanical failure at a wind turbine Sunday morning.

On Sunday, July 31, at approximately 7 a.m., the Gloucester Fire Department responded to a report that a blade fell off of the wind turbine at Applied Materials on Dory Road in the Blackburn Industrial Park.

There were no reported injuries, and no structural damage aside from the damage sustained in the turbine failure itself.

Due to the size of the turbine, which stands over 400 feet tall, the Gloucester Fire Department and the City of Gloucester are working closely with Applied Materials to establish an appropriate isolation area around the turbine, determine current hazards and concerns, and ensure the safety of the turbine and the area.

Great Republic Drive is closed in the area of the turbine, and will remain so indefinitely.

The Gloucester Police Department and Gloucester Fire Department are working together to provide access to businesses on Great Republic Drive via a gated access driveway on Pond Road.

Michael Francis Article

Gloucester High School Junior, Michael Francis III, was honored by the Orange Rose Foundation for raising over $4,000 for the foundation by running the Maple Leaf Marathon and obtaining donations for his efforts.

Michael set a goal to raise funds for the foundation that his aunt, uncle, and their family developed in 2021; and he decided that training for and running a marathon would be an ideal way for him to help.  The Orange Rose Foundation is a 501(c) 3 charity focusing on supporting organizations that assist victims of domestic violence and working towards encouraging awareness.

Michael is an outstanding student, athlete, and member of the community.  The Orange Rose Foundation recently presented Michael with the Outstanding Citizen Award.  The foundation thanks him for his support and all the great work he does in the community.  They wish him luck in his senior year at Gloucester High School and continued success in all his future endeavors.

MUSIC ON MEETINGHOUSE GREEN

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 28, 2022

WHAT TIME IS IT MR FOX PERFORMS AT MUSIC ON MEETINGHOUSE GREEN ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 5
Singer/songwriter 3rian King and the musicians of What Time Is It Mr. Fox deliver an electrifying performance with an evening of smoky cabaret, neo-soul,
and acoustic noir at the corner of Middle and Church Streets at 6:00 p.m.

Well known in Boston’s underground cabaret scene, What Time Is It Mr. Fox has earned a strong following with frequent performances in New York City
and tours across the United States. Their original songs feature rich lyrical imagery that explore love, spirituality, sexuality, and identity, and their
performances are infused with energy, honesty, and emotional authenticity. Their unique brand of music and performance art has been adopted by
popular singers, filmmakers, and repertory theaters. Band members include: 3rian King, voice, piano, and acoustic guitar; Nathan Cohen, violin, trumpet,
voice; Dennis Monagle, drums; Renee Dupuis, voice, keys, and melodica; and Joe Cardoza, upright bass.

Your free-will donations will benefit the North Shore Health Project supporting the health and wellbeing of people living on the North Shore for more than
three decades. The evening’s food vendor is Rhea Pizzeria offering fresh pizza favorites.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Now in its seventh season, Music on Meetinghouse Green features nine free Friday evening concerts from July 8 to September 9. Performances are held
on the Green with great music, favorite foods from local vendors, and a different North Shore non-profit organization benefits each week through free-will
donations from the audience. Concerts begin at 6:00 p.m. and conclude at 8:30 p.m. Some chairs will be provided and audience members are welcome to
bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. Picnic with delicious local food from our vendors or bring your own. Performances are handicapped accessible and
parking on the Green is limited to persons with disabilities.

ABOUT THE GLOUCESTER MEETINGHOUSE FOUNDATION
Founded in 2015, the Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation is dedicated to preserving the landmark building as a civic hub, entertainment venue, and
community center. In addition to its work to preserve the historic 1806 Meetinghouse, GMF is currently raising funds to restore Meetinghouse Green.
The GMF has received a $130,000 grant from the Community Preservation Act and a $2,000 grant from the Essex Heritage Partnership Grant Program
towards a total project goal of $340,000. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2023.

THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS
