Breaking news! New category! We’re looking for some fun households or businesses along the Boat Parade of Lights route to light up their houses or restaurants. Chris McCarthy, Katelyn and Charleen will be judging and have some prizes for first and second place.



We are just a few days away from the Boat Parade. We are getting some new inquiries. There is no pre-registration, you just show up with your boat, ready to go by 7pm at the north Jones Creek entrance. A volunteer will be keeping track of the boats and will be on VHF Channel 6. Alpaca Fun

Many times throughout our recent vacation, we found ourselves reminded of home. This visit to Krystal Acres Alpaca Store and Farm is one example. GMG Jim spotted it so off we went in search of fun. And it was vastly more entertaining than I imagined. We were thinking of our dear friend Donna and her love of the Marshall Farm alpacas. So, cheers Marshall Farms! We now love alpacas too. The video should be viewed with the sound ON if you have never heard alpaca vocalization, as it startled me quite a bit. If you ever visit that part of the country, stop by for some extra fun.

A friend of Generous Gardeners, Jane Danicus, is a serious butterfly farmer.  She now has hundreds of monarch butterflies hatching at her property in Gloucester.  She is going to set free over a hundred on Stacy Boulevard this coming Friday, September 2nd at 2:00 p[m near the Fishermen’s Wives Memorial.

Gloucester Fire Department Announces Fireworks Display, Urges Community to Leave Show to Professionals

GLOUCESTER — Fire Chief Eric Smith reports that a professional fireworks company will provide a fireworks display over Gloucester Harbor as part of the Gloucester Schooner Festival on Saturday, and Chief Smith is encouraging residents to leave the fireworks to the professionals.
The large fireworks display will be held Saturday, Sept. 3, at 9 p.m., at Stage Fort Park, with a rain date of Sept. 5.
In light of drought conditions and ongoing high fire danger conditions in the community, Chief Smith is asking community members to assist the fire department by avoiding use of unauthorized fireworks.
“There are a lot of very large fireworks scheduled to be set off for the public’s enjoyment by a professional firm that is contracted with event organizers and approved by the Fire Department. It will be a great show,” Chief Smith said. “Despite much needed recent rains, drought conditions and fire danger remain extremely high, and we want to ensure everyone remains safe while enjoying the holiday weekend, so please leave the fireworks to the professionals.”
