My View of Life on the Dock
Peek-a-boo. Finn and I met a couple of super cute donkeys over the weekend. This one was extra friendly and definitely wanted to play.

I work hard to restrain myself from putting out the holiday lights and decorations until it’s December. It’s a hold-over from those days when the kids were young and overly anxious about the holidays approaching. Anyhow, December 1 rolled around and I felt free to go wild. The first thing I did (after shopping Ladies Day) was to go to the Stevens Coolidge House Winterlights event put on by the Trustees. What a joyful walk we took around the grounds admiring the thousands of lights and the piped in holiday music. GMG Jim thinks it’s the best light display he’s ever been to. I LOVE lights…if it says “lights”, I am checking it out.
As mentioned, it’s an event from the Trustees and 3 properties participate. We went to North Andover for our 4:30 timed tickets. The ride at that time of day is not fun but we enjoyed the event thoroughly. You need to purchase tickets ahead and they are timed (although they don’t seem too strict about the timing of your visit as long as you have the tickets). Discounts for Trustee members. As per usual, I suggest going earlier than later. It was starting to get congested in the lots and on the pathways by the time we departed. The pathways are very well defined and only partially lit. The ground is even but it is a little uneven in some places so be aware if you have mobility issues though we did see wheelchairs and strollers managing easily. Get your tickets early if you plan to go. This event sells out. Great idea for company and children!

Each year, the Gloucester Lyceum and Sawyer Free Library recognize outstanding volunteers for their efforts and dedication to the Library. As a part of the Sawyer Free Libraryโs Annual Meeting, the Mary M. Weissblum Volunteer Award was presented to lifelong Gloucester resident Rebecca Aliberte. She was honored with the community award for her leadership, tireless dedication to the Friends of the Sawyer Free Library, and countless hours volunteering in the Libraryโs childrenโs room.
โVolunteers are essential to the work of our Library, and so every year, we seek to celebrate one of our most exceptional volunteers. This year we have chosen to honor the wonderful Rebecca Aliberte,โ said Assistant Library Director Beth Pocock in presenting the award. ย
Rebecca has volunteered in the Libraryโs childrenโs room for over ten years. On any given day, one might find her doing various tasks to help ease the load of the libraryโฆ

A beautiful blue heron was peacefully hunting at Niles Pond recently along with a number of ducks. Apparently the ducks decided they needed to establish themselves with the heron and dive bombed him. It was more of a drive by than an attack, and both species continued along with their business. Kind of reminded me of some of those silly Tik Tok street scenes you see.

If you are under the impression that this article is going to be a discussion about what knowledge a home inspector has in contrast with a contractor or builder, that will not be the focus. There are good and bad home inspectors out there, and there are good and bad contractors, but quality varies greatly on an individual basis in both cases, and I am sure many builders or contractors will have an extensive knowledge base about the many systems in a home. The construction industry has been around in some form since the beginning of time and the home inspection profession is an extremely young industry. This article is not to diminish either profession but merely to discuss some of the trends going on in the market. As a home inspector in this current market, I have seen fewer and fewer traditional inspections being performed. One of the manyโฆ
