Rebecca McGee Tuck:  Journey from BFA to Acclaimed Artist Activist

Rebecca McGee Tuck is an inspiration with boundless energy.  After receiving her BFA in 2019, despite the pandemic, she found innovative ways to balance her art practice while advancing her career. Also, learn how her art propelled her into the role of environmental activist.

Bio: 

Rebecca McGee Tuck is a sculptor, an ocean activist and a collector of lost objects.  Tuck has shown her work in multiple juried shows throughout the Northeast including the Boston Sculptors Gallery, the Fitchburg Art Museum, PEG Center for Art and Activism, and the George Marshall Store Gallery in York, Maine.

The Experimental Group is a creative forum, its main mission is to increase public awareness and to foster self-expression by bringing artists together to explore and share ideas that cultivate creative freedom. The EG is encouraged and supported by the Rockport Art Association & Museum.

Michalak Fine Art opens for the season, Saturday April 8th with a three person show. Work by three former SMFA graduates celebrate the change of season with “Perpetual Spring.”

The exhibition highlights a variety of different media including collage, acrylic, gouache and oil painting.

 Sasha Parfenova, a Boston-based artist’s intricate collages, meld realistic imagery of flowers, birds and other natural phenomena in abstract, contemplative arrangement. Fotini Christophillis, based in Greenville, SC, taps into family history, presenting paintings inspired by her visit to Greece, where her grandparents once lived. And Vanessa Michalak explores imagery around the theme gardens and wildflowers in her dynamic oil paintings.  

Show Opening, Saturday, April 8th with a reception from 4pm-7pm. Show dates: April 8th– May 14th

49th Meals on Wheels Fundraiser BreakfastGloucester House RestaurantFriday, March 31st.7:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.

We are excited to have the breakfast back after our in-person breakfast was suspended during COVID.  We need your support, since COVID we have seen an increase of need for our older adults and increase in food and supply cost as well.

 

Tickets are $20.00 can be purchased online or at the door, we also have an on-line auction with some great items, including“Hard Merchandise” fishing vessel with Captain Dave Marciano from the TV hit series “Wicked Tuna.”, overnight stays in Gloucester, Boston and more..

 

We are so fortunate to have the Linquata Family provide this annual fundraiser for us; this year guest can check out their newly renovated space.

 

This past year, SeniorCare served 192,000 meals to over 600 older adults.  Our drivers deliver a well-balanced meal, special diets, they also are a friendly contact, providing an informal safety check, while addressing social isolation.

 

We are always in the need for volunteer drivers so please reach out to volunteer!

Balancing Act — pat morss

I don’t know who this is, but he was out on the Audubon rocks this morning balancing stones on his see-saw. He had patience.

Bringing stones for the second layer of the stacks
Easy enough
And more stones for the third layer
Have to put them on at exactly the same time
Looking good
A little adjustment
A fourth layer is going to be tricky
Got to hold the see-saw steady
But that wasn’t steady enough
I’ll rearrange the stack and try again
Disaster – hard to balance the see-saw while picking up the stones
There goes the stack at the other end
Time to go – the stones won this round

VIVA! THE 10TH ANNUAL ST. JOSEPH’S FEAST!

This was the first year that our annual St. Joseph’s Day Feast was held at the Elk’s Lodge on Bass Rocks. The turnout, food, smiles, and laughs were amazing! Thank you to Sista Felicia, and all the ladies of Novena, for starting this and keeping it going year after year.
