Mayor Greg Verga is pleased to announce the appointment of Vionette (Vee) Chipperini as Veterans Agent for the City of Gloucester.
Vee Chipperini was appointed on Thursday, June 1,and will serve as a liaison between Gloucester veterans and benefits and services. As Veterans Agent, Chipperini will be responsible for veterans outreach, program referrals, ensuring access to employment assistance, and will coordinate observances including Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
Chipperini was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in Camden, New Jersey. She served in the U.S. Army from 2001 to 2006, where she achieved the rank of Sergeant.
She was stationed in Korea and Kuwait, and then to Iraq for Operations Iraqi Freedom, and earned several medals for her bravery and sacrifice. She was awarded three Army Commendation Medals, the Army Combat Action Badge, the Army Good Conduct Badge, and was also recommended for a Bronze Star Medal for her efforts in Operation Iraqi Freedom
Chipperini was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries she sustained while serving as a driver and a gunner in Iraq.
Following discharge, Chipperini has continued to advocate for and work with veterans across Massachusetts. She graduated from Endicott College in 2022 with a Bachelor’s degree and a concentration in Trauma Studies, with a focus on Post Traumatic Stress and Cognitive Adjustment Disorders. Last year she also received her Massachusetts Veterans Service Officer Certification. She also has been active with veterans organizations along Cape Ann.
“Vee is an institution in our community, and our veterans speak so highly of her work and commitment to service,” said Mayor Verga. “I am proud to have her in this role and know she will continue to be a resource to our community. Her training and expertise will ensure our veterans remain safe and healthy.”
“I am excited to continue to work with the veterans in our communities and advocate for their needs and that of their families in this new role. I know I have big shoes to fill, but Adam was a great leader, mentor, and friend and I am excited to have the opportunity to step up to this challenge,” said Chipperini. “I look forward to strengthening our relationships with community partners, educating younger generations on what service and sacrifice entails and providing as many resources necessary for our veterans as well as their families. Having been on both sides of this aisle, the veteran serving and that of the spouse left behind, I know all too well the burden and struggles we battle with daily. I am honored to have this opportunity and look forward to growing stronger together.”

The Greater Cape Ann Chamber has recently distributed its 2023-24 Guide and Directory, which (as usual) is full of helpful information for visitors as well as residents. I always pick one up to have on hand for ideas for day trips or restaurants. And this year, I am pleased to report that one of my favorite photos is included! There are many fine images in the Guide from familiar names, so grab one and take a look. They are available at the Visitor Center at Stage Fort Park and my shift is Thursday mornings, just FYI! Here’s an online link to this year’s guide.
