Joey and I hope to see many of you this weekend at 44 Main St in Gloucester’s West End as we open our new storefront featuring Gloucester Apparel (designed by Joey C) and Pat D’s Photos. Pat D’s Photos offers photography gifts with a local flair as you see below. Joey’s apparel is good quality at a very reasonable price for you to show off your favorite town! We plan to be open today Saturday Jan 13 at 10 AM , tomorrow Sunday and Monday 11-5. Future hours TBD and announced. Stop in and say hello. MLK DAY Celebration at the Meetinghouse

The Martin Luther King holiday is coming up fast!  A week from today, Monday January 15th at 2:00pm, the Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation will host our annual celebration event.

 

Each year we strive to create a singular, thought-provoking and inspiring event to honor Dr. King’s legacy and vision.  The Press Release and Poster are attached.

Mayor Greg Verga, opening address

Renée Graham, Boston Globe associate editor and columnist, keynote speaker with audience Q&A

Michea McCaffery, Gloucester Racial Justice Team Chair, Gloucester survey presentation, conversation with Renée Graham, and audience Q&A

This unique Annual Celebration represents the visual and performing arts – music, painting, drama, poetry, and dance – from all five of our communities. 

The Program and Cocktail Reception will be held from 5 to 7 PM (heavy appetizers). The Live Performances begin at 7:30 PM. Ticketing options include:

  • Program and Cocktail Reception plus Live Performances for $100; or
  • Live Performances Only at $45 for adults and $20 for youth under 18.

The beginning of a New Year.

A gig crew getting in a last harbor row before New Year’s Eve champagne.
Canada Geese noisily headed out over the ocean.
A skirmish over suet, the preferred dessert.
Fishing vessel headed home into Gloucester.
Toward a fiery sunset over the Boston skyline.
A Red-tailed Hawk could care less as we walked right under him.
Rain on the coast finally changed to the first snow of 2024.
Deer in the Audubon Sanctuary remained alert.
Two nights later a 70 mph southeast storm hit, causing tree losses.
Waves were modest, but there was a build-up of foam, looking like sponge rubber.
Heavy rain and driveway erosion compromised newspaper delivery.
Calming down last evening, but we’re expecting another storm tomorrow night.

The Lobster
