The Fish on Fridays series is a collaboration between Gloucester photographers Kathy Chapman and Marty Luster. Look for various aspects of Gloucester’s centuries-old fishing industry highlighted here on Fridays.
Today Kathy is sharing monkfish images. Romeo, the fish buyer for Connolly Seafoods,(www.steveconnollyseafood.com) is pictured at Cape Ann Seafood Exchange as he examines and comments on monkfish as the “poor man’s lobster”. Next image is a beauty shot of the wide smile. The second video is shot at Connolly, of the production line, showing the filleting and skinning of a monkfish tail.

The Atwater-Donnelly Band at Old Sloop Coffeehouse January 5
Old Sloop Coffeehouse will present a performance by the Atwater-Donnelly Band on Saturday, January 5, at 7:30 PM at the handicap-accessible First Congregational Church of Rockport, 12 School St.
Every performance is surprisingly different and always entertaining, exciting and educational with the award-winning duo Atwater~Donnelly, who provide a unique and thrilling blend of traditional American and Celtic folk music and dance, along with original songs and poetry. The highly praised husband-wife duo blends gorgeous vocals with an astounding array of instruments including the mountain dulcimer, old-time banjo, tin whistle, guitar, mandolin, harmonica, limberjacks, feet and more. Not to be missed is this Atwater~Donnelly Band show where Aubrey and Elwood collaborate with musicians Cathy Clasper-Torch on violin, cello and piano, John & Heidi Cerrigione on up-right bass and autoharp, and Irish step-dancer and percussionist Kevin Doyle. Kevin was the principle dancer and dance director for Brian O’Donovan’s Christmas Celtic Sojourn in 2011, and many from Cape Ann will recognize him from the performance at the Shalin Liu Performing Arts Center.
Tickets can be purchased in advance for $12 from the coffeehouse web site at oldsloopcoffeehouse.org, at Gloucester Music, and at Toad Hall Bookstore in Rockport. The suggested donation at the door is $14 for adults, $9 for those 65 and older, $5 for those younger than 18, and $28 for a family. This is a WUMB “Warm Clothes – Warm Hearts” event: bring a gently-used coat, jacket, hat, or gloves for donation to an area homeless shelter and receive a free drink as a thank-you.

I got nothin’.
Pretty soon, the weekend warmup, the sun really starts returning, posting about the two super bright as a full moon comets we are going to have in 2013, all coming up but right now I’m tapped out. So enjoy a few minutes of Frostie Dancing to Ray Charles singing “Shake Your Tail Feather.” I’m teaching my new friend the blow up Rubber Duck the moves since we are retiring Gangman Style.
ps. Good Morning Gloucester is aware there is a fifty foot tall Rubber Duck in Sydney Harbor. No more phone calls to the dock or Joey might blow an irreplaceable seal. Meanwhile we are all trying to get this duck up to Gloucester for the festival so we can sneak it up on the dock so her eyeball can stare in the office window.

A Night of Classic Jazz featuring Judith Murray at the Temple Ahavat Achim next Saturday, Jan 12th
Saturday, January 12th at 7 pm
“Café Shalom”, featuring a night of classic jazz, will take place at TAA, on Saturday evening, January 12th, 2013.
The event will begin at 7 pm with jazz vocalist Henry Allen and his New Swing Set. At 8 pm, following an intermission, jazz vocalist Judith Murray and her trio will perform those classic jazz pieces. Judith will perform with pianist Chris Taylor, and bassist David Landoni.
Judith performs jazz standards from the Great American Songbook, the 1930s’ and 40s’ and 50s’ genre. It is the music that is classy, sultry, fine and mellow; and sometimes swinging! Judith’s sounds have a sophisticated, sassy, smooth and stunning quality; her interpretations often compared to the late Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington by the patrons and media alike.
Admission is $10 per person.

Origami from my archives
Going through some origami I have in storage I came across these inventions of mine I haven’t folded in a while.
First, this golden cat, that looks like it belongs in an Egyptian tomb.
Then this car. I came up with it a few years ago when a little boy asked me to make an origami car, and I didn’t have any instructions with me. The basic idea of the design is inspired in other models, but the way I worked it out is mine:
I have to remember how I did it, and get it diagrammed for future use…
