The Cape Ann Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution have been working on a project for a few years to commemorate and honor the August 8, 1775 Battle of Gloucester between Gloucester residents and the British ship Falcon, as well as the two Gloucestermen who were lost in the battle.
We’re happy to say that the project is finished and ready to be unveiled close to the 249th Anniversary of the Battle to help lead us into MA250 in 2025, the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution!
The DAR project, a large bronze plaque affixed to a big Gloucester granite boulder, will be dedicated on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 10:00AM to 11:00AM, rain or shine.
The public is invited! BYO umbrella to the Gemmellaro/Ciaramitaro Playground, aka the playground down the Fort, before 10AM. Some covered seating will be available.

As soon as I saw this Puffin puzzle set offered by Pauline at Pauline’s Gifts on Essex Ave, I knew I would need one for Pat’s Puffin Emporium at 44 Main St. It’s turning into a challenge I wasn’t exactly expecting. 443 (!!) pieces, many of them pretty darn tiny, and 31 instruction steps before I have a completed puffin on my hands. I set a goal to have the puzzle done by the time FOB Paula Ryan O’Brien came back to Gloucester for a visit in mid August. Let’s just say we aren’t having fun with it yet.
We are up to step 11 and this is our progress. When I took the photo for this post was the first time I saw the puffin feet looking like puffin feet. Step 12 is proving a killer and I am ready to call the project DOA. What’s your call? Forge on or forget it?

Friday: The Wolff Sister with Ali McGuirk – Join us for an evening of music from incredibly talented women! The Wolff Sisters played Boston Calling in the spring – you won’t want to miss their debut at The Cut! There are still tickets available for this show. Doors at 7pm, show at 8pm. Saturday: The Ibiza Party – A DJ Dance Party with Jaminic – 9pm – Midnight. Huge dance floor, huge sound, huge bar, Ibiza vibes – No Cover. Sunday: Gloucester Speaks Film Screening – We’re looking forward to our first film screening! Filmmaker, Shep Abbott will be in attendance for a Q&A session following the film. Doors at 7pm, film at 7:45pm. Seating is GA. There are still tickets to this event. Vinyl Night in the restaurant. BYO records and we’ll spin them! 4pm – 10pm. This will be a recurring event every Sunday.
The recent hot spell finally broke today. We’ve all been coping with it in different ways.

On Saturday, August 10th, seven of the Cape Ann Artisans will open up their studios for visitors and locals to take advantage of Massachusetts tax-free holiday. Although the main tour is on sabbatical in 2024, the artisans have all held hours individually for studio visits and this is a convenient way for visitors to get a peek into the bigger tour which will resume in 2025. All Studios will be open from 10-5:30 unless otherwise indicated. The artisans involved are as follows:
