My View of Life on the Dock
I was trying to get a photo of the lightning, but I was just a bit too late. However, I think this came out nicely anyway, even without lightning bolts:
My name is Joey. I think I am about five-years-old. I have a handsome white-and-tiger coat. I found myself homeless as an adolescent, I lived on the harsh streets in Boston alone. Along the way, I met some wonderful friends who were part of a feeding program. These human friends would come out each night and feed the cats who lived on the streets. I was so grateful for the kindness they showed me. One of my favorite’s was Ms. Patty – she would feed the feral cats who were not friendly to me at all. Ms. Patty realized at one time I must have been a house cat. I worried about Ms. Patty traveling alone at night and I would keep her company and safe along her route. We would go the library and three other stops before going right to Ms. Patty’s own front door. The kind ladies thought it would be best if I were placed in a shelter where I could find a loving family. I am now at the Cape Ann Animal Aid, located at the Christopher Cutler Animal Shelter, Four Paws Lane, Gloucester. Check out their site at www.CapeAnnAnimalAid.com
The shelter here is beautiful – and so are the staff and volunteers who treat me like Ms. Patty did!

This girl could have been attractive. She could have been a lot of things. But look at her.
A mess.
Think any addict starts out taking drugs thinking they were ever going to end up blowing ugly dudes so they can afford their next fix? Think anyone ingests balloons full of drugs only to shit them out to smuggle them or hide them because they’re normal?
Here’s a little suggestion for you-
Don’t think you’re stronger than the drug. It doesn’t matter how strong willed you think you might be. Imagine if the chance of you got addicted was only 10% even though it’s way higher. Would you take a 10% chance that you’d ever end up looking like this chick?
Would you take a 10% chance that you’d end up getting screwed by ugly dudes for money to buy drugs because you were that desperate?
Do yourself a favor and find other ways to distract yourself. Throw yourself into creating art. Throw yourself into sports or working out. Throw yourself into taking higher education classes.
Throw yourself into anything but taking drugs. Not once. Not ever.
Don’t be the chick with horrible acne screwing ugly dudes for money to buy dope.
I dig the whole concept. When there’s things that we can take advantage of that are wins all the way around, that’s something I can get behind.

In support of the City of Gloucester’s Earth Day activities, NOAA Fisheries is sponsoring the volunteer cleanup of the upper section of the Mill River between 8 – 10 am on Saturday, April 13th. The 30 acre upper section of the Mill River was collaboratively restored in 2011 by the City of Gloucester, NOAA Fisheries and a host of other project partners, in part to restore habitat for the fish that provide the basis of the food chain for fish stocks that are important to Gloucester’s commercial fisheries. Anyone who wants to learn more about this project and pitch in a little volunteer time to further the recovery of this important estuary please meet at the tide gate located at approximately 400 Washington Street anytime between 8 – 10 am. Wear shoes that can get muddy. The city of Gloucester will provide bags. Bring a 5 gallon bucket if you have one. For more information please contact Eric Hutchins at 978-281-9313.
Ed. Note: Eric Hutchins and his organization were also the group responsible for the restoration of the culvert at the Eastern Point Lighthouse.

What exciting work all the sleuths in Gloucester are doing tracking Edward Hopper’s footprints! I sure wish that I had had the power of the internet when I was first doing my research on Hopper in the 1970s and early 1980s, but there was no internet presence then. Most folks I encountered in Gloucester had never even heard of Hopper. Congratulations to all the people finding Hopper’s presence and to those who conceived of the website.
