City Announces Riptide Advisory Due to Hurricane
Beach Safety Plan in effect on Saturday July 5th and Sunday July 6th
(Gloucester, MA) – The City of Gloucester today announced that dangerous conditions, including rip tides and strong surf undertow, are expected this weekend at Good Harbor and Wingaersheek Beaches in Gloucester. To ensure the well-being of guests, a Beach Safety Plan will be in effect for Saturday and Sunday, July 5th and 6th at all City beaches as Hurricane Arthur passes out to sea to the east of Cape Ann.
Under the Beach Safety Plan, lifeguards have authority to close all or portions of the beaches at their discretion. In sections that are open, swimmers must refrain from going into the water above the waist. Gloucester police officers will be on beach patrol throughout the weekend to enforce the lifeguard orders.
While Gloucester Fire and Police department personnel will stand ready to respond to any water-related emergencies, all life safety officials urge beach goers to immediately obey lifeguard instructions.
All beach goers are reminded that lifeguards are not on duty after 5 p.m. Residents and visitors are urged to stay out of the water when lifeguards

Vickie and Peter Van Ness report-

The Gloucester Fireworks Committee just cancelled tomorrow’s fireworks due to weather predictions (see Gloucester Times article here), but the Horribles Parade and free concert are still on in the hopes that weather will clear up.

Music featuring Cape Ann Big Band and The Runaround Sound will begin after the parade passes by the Boulevard stage (probably around 7:00pm) and continue until 11:00pm with a spectacular laser light show somewhere in between.

So come out and enjoy the parade and free concert.  Let’s show all those people visiting from out of town that bad weather predictions aren’t enough to spoil our fun!
