Lights of Love to Be Held Dec. 3

Addison Gilbert Hospital’s Seventh annual celebration of life and hope – Lights of Love – will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 3 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the hospital. Lights of Love was co-founded by Sue Kyle, who fought a courageous five-year battle with colon cancer. Together, Sue and her partner Shawn Wilson founded Lights of Love to ensure that Cape Ann residents could benefit from the comprehensive care provided by the cancer care team at AGH. Since 2008, Lights of Love has raised more than $116,000 to ensure access to high-quality cancer care for Cape Ann families and the 2,000 patients served each year at the Gorton’s Specialty and Cancer Care Center. This year’s goal is to raise $25,000 for cancer services, with proceeds supporting Addison Gilbert Hospital’s cancer program, including the provision of special care packages to new cancer patients. This year’s event will be presented in honor of Tina Ketchopulos. For more information or to make a donation, please visit www.addisongilbert.org/lightsoflove

What’s Happening at GHS 11/26/14

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

The ROTC Program will begin collecting Toys for Tots through December 12. Please consider contributing to this important drive to assist those less fortunate to have a gift to open for the Christmas Holidays.

The Student Council will be collecting all non- perishable food items for the FOOD DRIVE this year and hopefully will reach their goal of 2000 items. Items may be dropped off in most classrooms but all will be collected in the library divided by class, Frosh, Soph, Junior and Senior. May the most dedicated class win!

All Seniors, please remember that if you have any January deadlines for your College Application submissions, the Pink Transcript release should be delivered to Guidance by December 9, two weeks before our Christmas Break, in order to ensure that all of your documentation arrives by the January 1, deadline. Check in with your Guidance Counselor for more specific details regarding submission!

The National Honor Society, Sherman B. Ruth Chapter, members provide leadership in scholarship, citizenship and public service throughout the school community and the community at large. Eligibility is limited to juniors and seniors who have attended GHS for one semester and have achieved a cumulative average of 88 % or higher. The Faculty Council then evaluates students who meet the scholastic requirement on the basis of the other three “pillars” of leadership, service and character.

What is Your Favorite Thanksgiving Pie?

My family adores apple pie, as much as with Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, as the following morning (minus the whipped cream and ice cream) My husband’s very favorite breakfast is scrambled eggs and apple pie, with a chunk of cheddar cheese. I don’t see anything wrong with pie for breakfast–its basically fruit with a bit of dough.

What’s your favorite Thanksgiving pie?

Apple Pie Making ©Kim Smith 2014Apple Pie Centrale

Usually I make our apple pies with half Granny Smiths and half Gala apples. This year we had a mishmash in the frig, both Grannies and Galas, also Pink Ladies and Fujis. I am hoping the pies will be extra delish with the flavors and textures of the different cultivars of apples. What variety of apple do you think makes the best apple pie?

Focus on the Homie

homieballet
This is a scientific experiment in visual processing. Stare at the Homie for at least three minutes. Do not blink or look away. Now quickly turn and look at a blank white wall. What do you see? Results can vary. Try it right after you have wedged that last slice of Pumpkin Chiffon into your pie hole tomorrow. You may see something spectacular!

If the Annisquam River Buoy is not spinning either get a new Internet Browser or clean your eyeglasses.

Happy Birthday Nichole Schrafft!

Having a birthday teh day before Thanksgiving is much better than the day before Christmas when you’d get all jipped out of presents. Instead every birthday falls on Homecoming!
and we all know Nichole needs no excuse to party.

Wednesday Thanksgiving Eve ~ Dave Sag’s Blues Party starts 9pm @ The Rhumb Line 11.26.2014

Mr. Orville Giddings Mr. Amadee Castenell Mr. Dave Sag

We’re dive-bombing the good old Rhumb Line this WEDNESDAY! In all due respect to Turkey Day, The bar is closed on Thursday.
So, I’ve assembled an all-star cast featuring Mr. Orville Giddings. He of the 1000 watt smile and jewel-encrusted uvula will de driving in from Ipswich with a banjo on his knee.  Not only that, but I’ve snagged Mr. Amadee Castenell, fabulously diverse tenor man and mainstay in Henri Smith’s band to put the fear of God in you. This is his first time with us. Make it count!
Throw in Mr. John Cameron, on keys and Mr. John Loud, on eggbeaters, and you have  the beginnings of a wonderful night of music.Be the first on your block to carry your brainstem home in a box!

Dave Barry Needs A Kidney Transplant

My friend Dave Barry, a good friend from my high school days, is in need of a life saving kidney transplant. He has a donor, his son, but needs financial help. His insurance will not

Cover the operation in full.

We have started a fundraising drive for Dave to help with his medical expenses. Our goal is to raise $6000.

We have raised $2490 so far but donations have tapered off quite a bit recently.

If you would like to help Dave, log on

To www.GiveForward.com and look for Dave’s fundraising page. If you would

Prefer to make out a check, make it out to: Dave Barry, 5 Le Pages Lane,

Gloucester, MA. 01930

Thank you, Albie Mitchell, friend and team member. 978-879-3655

Pet of the Week-MIME

mime

You can’t squeeze more sweetness into a small package than you will find with me!  I am a bit clownish but I guess my quieter nature combined with my animated play led folks to give me the name Mime.  I love cuddle time, soft toys to toss around and having a dog buddy to hang out with.  Come to the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter and visit with me and my friends today!  For more information on adoptable pets and upcoming events visit www.capeannanimalaid.org.
