Help out while having fun. In light of this weeks terrible fire in Magnolia, Just Like Newman would like to ask friends to come to the Halloween party this Friday night with a couple of extra dollars or perhaps a gift card to Marshalls, Market Basket, CVS or another local business that we can donate to the victims of the fire. We’ll put out a bucket to collect everything and 100% will go directly to the victims… Don’t forget to wear your costume!

What a Loss…What a Legacy

I had the pleasure and the honor of meeting and photographing Mayor Menino on several occasions. What a tremendous man, what a great influence on the city of Boston and beyond, and what a sad loss.

This Thursday Just Quinn joins the Dave Sag’s Blues Party @ The Rhumb Line 8:30-11:30pm 10.30.2014

dave s b wDave says,

Golly; a lot of harp players lately. Yet, I’ve saved the best for last, at least for this month. Let’s welcome back Justin Quinn and his rolling roadblock for an evening of pedal-to-the-mettle fuel-injected blues. The long time host of Glenn’s Cool Bar blues sessions in Nbpt. is hitchhiking down here to give you a whiff of the real deal blueswise, and it’s going to be terrific, or,at least, terrifying. I love playing with this guy!

He’s bringing along Mr. Jon Ross, guitarist xtroidinaire, to mold the clay, and the ever so tonsorially-challenged drummbler, Mr. Steevee Chaggaris, to beat you to a pulp. It’s pre-Halloween, so nobody will notice if you dress funny. Not that they ever do. Bring a date and dance to the whites of her eyes!

Cast Off and Chow Down!

PrincessCruise5073wmPrincessCruise5075wmLast Saturday Janet and I took Gloucester’s Beauport Princess dinner cruise, with music by the Sugar Tones. The trip featured a buffet dinner, which I expected to be the usual finger sandwiches, cheese and maybe some greasy wings. Boy, was I mistaken! The prime rib was one to over two inches thick, and perfectly cooked. Additions included baked haddock, fancy ravioli, big mushrooms, and much much more. Cheesecake was served as dessert. Only one or two diners went for seconds. If this were a restaurant only, it would be one of the City’s best. Throw in a three hour cruise in Gloucester Harbor, and you’ve got an unforgettable night for very reasonable money. The Princess will be sailing weekends until New Year’s Eve. http://beauportprincess.com

Dory Haul Out This Saturday

The IDRC needs your help this Saturday November 1st to haul out our race dories and put them away for the winter.
This process requires many volunteers as the boats will have to be nested inside the tent (need at least 8-10 volunteers to make light work of it).
We also could benefit from a trailer or two if anyone has a trailer and has not pulled their boat yet.
The plan is to meet at Eastern Ave. Self Storage at 3PM and load the two practice boats.
Joe Novello and helper will tow 2 race boats and meet us at the high school landing.
We will swap the boats and make a 2nd trip to haul the remaining race dories.
Please respond if you can make it and if you have an available trailer!

Some Interesting Facts About Coyotes

Coyotes that dwell in New England and Appalachia are approximately 82 percent coyote dna, 9 percent dog dna, and 9 percent wolf dna.

The larger size of the eastern coyotes (compared to the western coyote) is thought to be a result of their rich diet and because they are roughly comprised of 10 percent wolf dna.

The coyote is an invasive species that never dwelled in the east until this past century. It quickly migrated eastward, due to habitat loss in the west. Along the way, the coyote bred with grey and red wolves, which biologists think increased its ability to withstand cooler temperatures, allowing it to adapt to New England and Appalachian winters.

Coyotes prey upon fox and fishers and also out compete them for habitat. Fox and fishers are the best hunters of mice, rats, chipmunks, grey squirrels, and bunnies. Few or no fox and fishers equals an unparalleled abundance of these species.

The increased coyote population has had a direct correlation in the rise in Lyme disease
