The ongoing series of finding ways to cut Home Energy Costs and Be More Comfortable In Your Own Home Part 5
In this video you’ll see the things Kevin From Next Step did to inspect and replace inefficient things in my mom’s house.
If ever there has been something I stand behind as being 100% no-brainer and you’d have to be crazy to not take advantage of it’s this. Not only is it incredibly interesting, but the immediate money in your pocket saving and free lightbulbs that look exactly like the old inefficient ones that they are replacing. To know all the places where you are losing heat so you can take steps to correct those things. If you want to have insulation work done or weather sealing to have Mass Save pay for 75% of THAT. To know that you can elect to have any of it done or not and to know you are already paying for it on your electric bill in the line item “Energy Efficiency Charge” and then not take advantage of it. You would have to say to yourself “That person is crazy to not want to do this.”
I was blown away with what my mom got, how interesting it was and how much I learned about energy savings and teh construction of my mom’s house.
If you want to take advantage of awesome programs available to you right now for zero out of pocket then watch the video and sign up for your own energy efficiency assessment and get a ton of free lightbulbs, power strips, electronic thermostats that will turn down the heat at night or while you’re at work automatically, and efficient showerheads.
Here’s the video walkthrough and conclusions of my Mom’s house so you can see what you can expect to learn and receive again, for zero cost-
Oh, I Forgot To Mention The Free Electronic Thermostats That They Will Provide and Install Free Of Charge. My Mom has nine of the standard dial thermostats that they are going to come in and replace free of charge with programmable ones that will turn them down at night automatically and when you are off to work and then turn them back up just before you wake or come home from work for even more savings. They are going to replace and install 9 of them for a total savings of $1062. and that is not to mention any of the monthly savings she will receive from not having to go around and turn down the thermostats herself every day. No frickin brainer city. A grand+ in savings for zero dollars.

Pretty sky tonight however, the camera in the new 6 plus didn’t capture the striations in the setting sun. I’ll spend some time tomorrow getting to know the camera and am looking forward to trying out video, but at first glance, I am not that impressed with its loss of detail and graininess in low light conditions. I won’t be leaving home again anytime soon without my Fuji X-E1!

An Illinois-based seafood processor is opening a facility in Gloucester that’s expected to bring 200 jobs to the city.
The Mazzetta Company has purchased a 65,000-square-foot plant in the Blackburn Industrial Park and plans to invest $10 million in the facility with the goal of opening next year. The 200 jobs will be full- and part-time.
The investments include modern processing machinery and an 8,000-square-foot tank house.
Highland Park, Illinois-based Mazzetta is an importer, processor and distributor of frozen seafood products to restaurants, retailers and the hospitality industry. The company has received tax incentives from the state and city.
Mayor Carolyn Kirk says Mazzetta realized that Gloucester offers “innovation, collaboration and an unrivaled environment for doing business on the ocean.”

Pathways for Children Book Drive: Give the Gift of Literacy
Friday – Sundays, November 28 – December 18, 2014, 12-4pm
The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck, 6 Wonson Street, Gloucester.
The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck is pleased to participate as a book drop-off site for the Pathways for Children Holiday Book Drive.
“Reading with children is one of the most important gifts we can give. This holiday season, our goal is to give every child in our programs a new book. As you reflect on your favorite children’s or young adult books, please consider sharing it with one of the children in our programs – donate a new book or make a financial donation to our Holiday Book Drive.” Books for 2-5 year old children are most needed, as well as books appropriate for ages 0-18 yrs.
Please donate only new books (no used books), no religious/holiday books, no adult books (age 18+). Classic children’s books are very welcome (Dr. Suess, Eric Carle, etc), and in multiple copies.
Book Donations can be made at the Cultural Center at Rocky Neck and both Pathway for Children sites – 29 Emerson Ave, Gloucester and 292, Cabot St, Beverly – or make a financial contribution on-line.
Don’t freak out — at least, not yet. You can still get tickets for Saturday’s Cape Ann Symphony Concert right here. You can also still get tickets for the reception on Sunday. Get Reception Tickets here. For all of you who really wanted to go to the Sunday concert but thought you could get tickets at the door, stop you’re bellyaching and just be grateful that you live in a community with a vibrant, growing cultural economy. Oh, and next time you see a GMG post about a concert you might want to go to (like this post), get your tickets RIGHT THEN! We ALWAYS put a link to tickets — always (see above for 2 examples).
