‘Winter on Cape Ann’ Video Contest
Gloucester, MA – Cape Ann TV ( www.capeanntv.org  ), a non-profit local access cable station serving Gloucester, Rockport, Manchester-by-the-sea, and Essex, is hosting a winter video contest.  
Cape Ann is one of the most scenic and beautiful places in New England, and as such it is the perfect canvas for video. Show us your interpretation of “Winter on Cape Ann” in five minutes or less and win…
•    A free computer tune-up from Abacus Computers in Gloucester
•    A $25 gift card to Wally’s Blackburn Bistro
•    $50 from Cape Ann TV
All submissions are due by midnight on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2014. Cape Ann TV will determine the three finalists and the winners will be chosen by public vote online. All finalist’s videos will play on Cape Ann TV’s channel 12 in February.
Criteria:
•    Must include, however creatively, “Winter on Cape Ann”
•    All submissions must be under 5 minutes
•    Video producers must own all the rights to their content including music
•    Must be submitted via YouTube link to: contest@capeanntv.org by February 14th, 2015.

Yikes!  That is not a job I would want in January…or anytime really.

TBT ~ The Cheetah Coat

Liv Cheetah coat ŠKim Smith 2015Liv sent this snapshot that Matt took over New Year’s. I designed the coat that she is wearing before she was born (!); and also designed a coordinating pencil slim skirt, too. The coat made appearances in a number of music videos, art films, and theatrical productions. I love that the ensemble has yet a new life and that she has fun wearing it out in the evening. I saved a few of the samples, just in case we were blessed with a daughter, and just in case she wanted to play dress-up.  There’s a leopard version on my website, with Gail Huff (Brown) modeling here.

RIP “BLAZE”

I Had to put my Girl BLAZE to sleep this morning. She had a rough couple of weeks. She helped me through a rough couple of years. She was a sweetheart. She’s now with my son and father.

I brought her to the GMG headquarters a few years ago. She almost took down GMG that day. I was so proud of her!  🙂

I will miss my sidekick so much.

With no real accumulation and the kids dying to go sledding…or in this case TUBING, New England Sports Park (formally Amesbury Sports Park) has you covered! This weekend is finally opening weekend so they must be making snow.

What is New England Sports Park? Where do we start? 

We are best known the steepest, fastest snow tubing hill in New England in the winter.

I am a huge fan of Scavenger Hunts…just saying.  So, this sounds like a ton of fun! I’ve been meaning do one of the Watson Adventures Scavenger Hunts for some time now.  I’m not going to lie, the outdoor ones around Boston are more my cup of tea, but this sounds great….especially if you have kids who can’t get enough of the Museum of Science!

Ok. So this is a bit premature, but if you want to score tickets, you need to act now.  The new Cabot in Beverly is such a fantastic venue and they have opened with a bang offering a wonderfully diverse array of shows.  If you’ve been wanting to take your kids to a concert, but haven’t scored tix to Taylor Swift, One Direction, or Gosh Only Knows Who Else….or if you’re not sure that they’re old enough for such an event…next weekend’s Alastair Moock concert may just be the ticket you’ve been looking for. In July of 2012, one of Alastair’s daughter’s was diagnosed with leukemia. The Singing Our Way Through project began when they started writing songs together in the hospital. Over the next several months, Moock continued to write and collect songs that reflected his family’s experiences – the love, the pride, the surprising amount of joy, and some of the more difficult parts too.

Moock decided he wanted to record an album for other families traveling similar paths. With the help of an amazing fundraising campaign and the musical talents of friends including co-producer Anand Nayak, Chris Smither, Aoife O’Donovan, Rani Arbo, Mark Erelli, The Okee Dokee Brothers, and (fellow 2014 Grammy nominee) Elizabeth Mitchell, Moock released Singing Our Way Through in July, 2013. Since then, more than 2,500 albums have been distributed to hospitals, cancer organizations and patient families around the country.

Just a reminder with these extreme cold temperatures. When you open this month’s insane electric bill, take note of that energy efficiency charge and ask yourself if you feel like continuing to not take advantage of the free savings available to you.

If ever there has been something I stand behind as being 100% no-brainer and you’d have to be crazy to not take advantage of it’s this.  Not only is it incredibly interesting, but the immediate money in your pocket saving and free lightbulbs that look exactly like the old inefficient ones that they are replacing. To know all the places where you are losing heat so you can take steps to correct those things.  If you want to have insulation work done or weather sealing to have Mass Save pay for 75% of THAT. To know that you can elect to have any of it done or not and to know you are already paying for it on your electric bill in the line item “Energy Efficiency Charge” and then not take advantage of it.  You would have to say to yourself “That person is crazy to not want to do this.”

I was blown away with what my mom got, how interesting it was and how much I learned about energy savings and teh construction of my mom’s house.

Here’s the video walkthrough and conclusions of my Mom’s house so you can see what you can expect to learn and receive again, for zero cost-

totalcostzeroOh, I Forgot To Mention The Free Electronic Thermostats That They Will Provide and Install Free Of Charge.  My Mom has nine of the standard dial thermostats that they are going to come in and replace free of charge with programmable ones that will turn them down at night automatically and when you are off to work and then turn them back up just before you wake or come home from work for even more savings.  They are going to replace and install 9 of them for a total savings of $1062. and that is not to mention any of the monthly savings she will receive from not having to go around and turn down the thermostats herself every day.  No frickin brainer city.  A grand+ in savings for zero dollars.

The winning design was chosen after nearly 2,000 votes were received from the Cape Ann community through online and ballot voting. The design was created by local Rockport artist, Annalei Babson, from Coveside Designs.

Yes, my good friends, it’s time to party! This Friday Night at DOG BAR @ 9pm is the place and time. Please come out and support our local artist POCKET TANYA, and have a blast at a live showcase performance and JUNKIE POP music video world premiere. Filmed inside the landmark locations of EMPIRE DEPARTMENT STORE and THE DOG BAR, this puppy is all Gloucester through and through! The video was conceived on the fly, and shot in a matter of a couple of hours. It was done all hand held, and just me and Paul, no other crew. This is a true run-n-gun production. Pocket Tanya is an amazing performer-singer-songwriter that will entertain the shit out of you! Also on the ticket is Megan McKenzie, a soulful and powerful vocalist that you won’t want to miss. Then to hold it all together is the pumpkin’ DJ stylings of SUPA UGLY. Calling all LGBT, ESPN, WKRP, NCAA, AACP, AARP..EVERYBODY COME OUT AND HAVE SOME FUN!!!!(The video will be re-played throughout the night, so you won’t miss it if you come out a bit late.)
