2015 New England Boat Show

The Boat Show is definitely one of my favorite events. So fun, Rick and I are very happy with our kayaks but is always fun to fantasize..

One Last Snow Photo

Photo out my window. There are three cars out there but I can only spot one car antenna. Must be the truck.

OK, one more, and yes I know about ice dams. Maybe I can sneak my hand out there and turn the grill on high. That might do it.

Before you know it the planet wobbles the other way and it is 4th of July in Rockport and Rubber Duck is getting soft in the heat from the leftover bonfire.

No App For That!

Joey has a fantastic idea going on here!  Shovelers Needed vs. People Looking To Earn $$ and Help Out Others. No Brainer. I’ll be the 1st to sign up my boys when they’re a tad bit older!

Saw this and couldn’t help but chuckle.  Sadly, a sign of the times for sure.

Rockport Storm Report: 9:45 a.m.

I haven’t ventured out of the house yet this morning, but I can tell you this much….  It is WINDY!

We have had just over a foot of new snow fall since Neptune started yesterday afternoon.  Lots of news channels in town including Channel 7 and CNN. Chris Anderson from 7 News just said, “Rockport has been a Rock during this last storm.”

IMG_3629

We’ve been judging the ridiculousness of it all by the size of the massive snow drift in the back corner of our yard.  It is now many inches over our fence and prime for more stand-up sledding in a little while.  We have also been laughing at the scary dorsal fin that has been rising from the depths of the snow on our deck.

Our front yard looks OK…nothing crazy out there yet.  My Jeep is not covered, the deck has some new accumulation, and the driveway has been plowed in with a couple of new feet of snow.

It was exciting to come home yesterday and find the National Guard taking care of our street.  Smith Road had become so narrow that I had to do a 3 point turn to get in and out of our driveway. Likewise, we had suffered a couple of stand-offs when faced with oncoming cars on our little street.  Really nice guys out of Vermont.  One commented on the fact that despite the crazy amounts of snow, Rockport looked like a nice little town.  We told him to come back during the summer for sure.

Joss Whedon Quote of the Week from Greg Bover

February 14, 2015

The one thing a creator can bring to the table when everybody else has all the money and power, is centeredness and the ability to walk away. Never sit at a table you can’t walk away from.

Joseph H. “Joss” Whedon (1964-    )

The grandson, son and brother of screenwriters, Whedon is perhaps best known as the creator of the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, although he also co-wrote Toy Story, and is the co-founder of the production companies Bellwether and Mutant Enemy. He wrote and directed The Avengers, the third highest grossing film of all time. Through his collaborations with Marvel Comics and Marvel Studios he created several series of graphic novels and sequential films sharing a common “universe” and themes centering on feminism, anti-authoritarianism, existentialism, and the importance of community. Winner of the Emmy and Saturn Awards, Whedon created the sci-fi cult-classic Firefly series and its follow-on movie Serenity.

Blizzard of ’69, Gloucester

a8945_402wm copyForty six years ago, almost to the day, the Blizzard of 1969 visited us. It dropped a mere 20 inches of snow. This is Gloucester’s DPW yard on Poplar Street, with National Guard and police vehicles in the yard and on the street. I think I see an armored personnel carrier on the right. The so-called “Lindsay Blizzard” killed 94 people. Mother Nature has a way of repeating herself, as does history.

Zillow Talk, How to use salemdeeds.com and The MarketWATCH From Kenny MacCarthy

From: Gloucester
25 and it’s starting to feel
a lot like Christmas

Watching real estate data is my job. Zillow has a data base of over 4 million sales. They know how to track trends.

Important to note:

  • Homes close to Starbucks vs Dunkin Donuts have appreciated 5% more over the last 5 years.
  • It’s the “worst house in the best neighborhood” for a reason. Don’t buy it.
  • If you do the math, ARMs are almost always a much better deal than Fixed Rate mortgages.
  • Sometimes renting makes more financial sense than buying. I have a formula if you want it.

Is the time right for you to make a move? It depends. Let me know if you want to talk about it.

Need research help? Watch the video.

Kenny

If You Get Tired of the Snow, Go for a Swim!

The boys and I met my mom, dad, sister, and nephew for a super yummy breakfast at the Cape Ann Marina this morning and then spent a couple of hours swimming in the pool….and having a couple of mimosas.

While there, I bought my February School Vacation Pool Pass!  SUCH a great deal!  For $59 a family of four can use the pool all week long (ending 2/22). If you have more than four in the family there is an additional fee per head.

A totally easy way to spend some time, get some exercise, and tire out the whippersnappers!  A total bonus is that you can order lunch/dinner/drinks while there.

Cape Ann Marina Resort   Call and ask them about the deal….or stop on by!

Hi Joey–Attached is a photo of my front porch in Gloucester on Feb. 9. The drifting was so high in front of the door that a neighbor had to dig me out! Peggy Dillon
