Tours are held rain or shine and last about 1½ hours; participants should be comfortable being on their feet for that amount of time. $10 members; $20 nonmembers (includes Museum admission). Space is limited; reservations required. Call (978) 283-0455 x10 or email info@capeannmuseum.org for details.
Hopper’s Houses
May 2, May 23 and June 13
American realist painter Edward Hopper first visited Cape Ann in 1912. Returning in 1923, Hopper began working in watercolor, capturing the local landscape and architecture in loosely rendered, light filled paintings. During his final two visits to the area, in 1926 and 1928, Hopper produced some of his finest paintings. This special walking tour will explore the neighborhood surrounding the Cape Ann Museum, which includes many of the Gloucester houses immortalized by Hopper’s paintings.
Historic Middle Street
May 9, May 30 and June 20
Discover Gloucester’s historic Middle Street—an ever-evolving neighborhood packed with four centuries of social, economic, and architectural history. On this tour in the heart of downtown Gloucester, visitors will see surviving evidence of the past and learn about structures and people now gone.
Fitz Henry Lane’s Gloucester
May 16, June 6 and June 27
Fitz Henry Lane was a Cape Ann artist, printmaker and world-renowned American marine painter. With his subtle use of gleaming light, Lane is generally regarded as one of the finest 19th century practitioners of a style known as luminism. This tour takes visitors on a walk through downtown Gloucester to learn about sites that were part of Lane’s life as well as to look at some of the views Lane painted.
The Cape Ann Museum tells multiple stories, all relating to Cape Ann. Founded in 1873, the Museum’s collections represent the history of Cape Ann, its people, its industries, its art and culture. For a detailed media fact sheet please visit www.capeannmuseum.org/press.

Circa 1928 Film from Dwight Herbert
This is 16 mm film taken during the summer of 1928 along the coastal waters from Boston to Gloucester. It is about 9 minutes long. I cut and edited the original film and added the 1928 sound track. You will see some interesting scenes from Marblehead and Gloucester.
Q: Who’s the Hendrix of the Harmonica? A: Sugar Blue and you can see him LIVE at the Gloucester Blues Fest Aug 8
Three months from today on Saturday, August 8th, The 4th annual Gloucester Blues Festival kicks summer into high gear at Stage Fort Park featuring top national blues stars, including the man who’s known as Hendrix of the Harmonica, Sugar Blue. You’ve heard his signature playing on “Miss You” by The Rolling Stones. (You didn’t think Mick played that harp did you?)
Now you have the chance to see this blues icon (who’s also recorded with Willie Dixon, Prince, Stan Getz, Bob Dylan and many other) LIVE IN GLOUCESTER at The Gloucester Blues Festival on August 8th at Stage Fort Park.
What kills me is how much cheaper the tickets are if you buy them in advance — only $28 (GET TICKETS HERE) as opposed to $40 at the gate. So stop what you’re doing right now and GET A PAIR OF TIX FOR YOUR MOM (and a pair for yourself too).
Here’s Sugar Blue live (Ooooh, what a tight band he’s got too!)
And here’s the Rolling Stones’ multi-platinum hit “Miss You” — you don’t see a harp in Mitch’s mouth, do you?

“Fast and Furious Marty Luster.”
I that knew my friend Marty liked my Jeep Liberty. He like it so much he bought the first Jeep Renegade on Cape Ann (Hull No. 1). We took a ’round the Cape ride in his new car last week on one of those Spring Fever days that stirred the instincts of every teenager, only 60 years later.
After not driving since January 2014 because of illness, the fever hit me, hard. Tomorrow I’ll take the shop vac, towel, wax, and Windex to my 2009 “Trail Ready” Liberty. I can’t drive it yet to insure both my safety and that of others, but I can run my hand over the smooth metal as I did with my Dad’s 1956 Buick Special station wagon.

The Dog Poop vs Gum Poll…
During the taping of GloucesterCast 135 at Cape Ann TV I was completely baffled at the responses from the panel when asked which they would rather step in if they were wearing flip flops and didn’t have a choice in the matter- dog poop or gum. Donna, Kenny and Toby all chose dog poop which is shocking.
Am I crazy for choosing gum? I figure you can put ice on the gum and get it off, but I want no part of any flip flops that have trudged through dog poop. In the dumpster they go!
Where do you fall on the most pressing issue?

Greg Bover Quote of the Week
“If a problem has no solution, it may not be a problem, but a fact – not to be solved, but to be coped with over time.”
Shimon Peres (1923- )
Born in Poland, Peres’s family moved to Palestine in 1934. Raised on a kibbutz, he entered politics through an agriculturalist party and with his mentor David Ben-Gurion was one of the people who created the state of Israel in the 40’s. By 1952, at the age of 29, he was Director-General of the Ministry of Defense, the youngest person to hold that post. Elected to the Knesset in 1959, he spent the rest of his life in the Israeli government as, sequentially, Minister of Defense, Transportation, Finance, Foreign Affairs and Prime Minister. He was instrumental in the Oslo Peace Accords with the PLO, for which he received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994. He served as the 9th President of Israel from 2007 to 2014, the oldest serving head of state. Barack Obama recognized him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012.

Note that he or she will be delivering and collecting mail as usual, on top of collecting food donations, so that pickup time could be slightly later than usual.
