Me and my most significant other live in North central Minn. A little Hobby farm on the Mississippi river. Our body of water is lake superior. Our season of course is over. We have a 30 by 60 heated shop and am seriously considering attempting a build of some design. Do either one of you have any thoughts on that? Oh by the way right now we have an Alberg 30. It is in the shop and is going to get a repaint and inspection for the winter. Rewire the mast etc. etc. Thank-you both for reading. My name is Clyde. Sticks up and water out. fair winds
We left San Francisco (home) and have have been in South America the last few years. Boat is currently in Uraguy after spending a bunch of time in Tierra Del Fuego. That picture was taken off Chiloe Island in Chile.
While Inga has been a good little boat for us, it would be insane to build new and not take advantage of the last 70 years of development in boat design. We just bought an aluminum fin keel boat that will be our next cruising boat after a complete, down to a bare hull, rebuild. We wanted a metal boat since we like going very remote places with ice, but if not for that we had seriously been considering building one of Dudley Dix’s Didi designs. Modern boat design really is way better than the traditional type, safer, faster, and much easier to sail.

If you are really, really hungry…and only have $3…and you happen to be in Rockport, on Bearskin Neck, and everything is closed except for the Country Store (such a fabulous little store, for the record), and they’re sold out of EVERYTHING else, and you’re now beyond hungry, and someone dares you…. then maybe, just maybe you’d want to give these a go.

Introducing Cape Ann Power Yoga!
Cape Ann Health, Fitness and Wellness News
http://www.capeannwellness.com
Cape Ann Power Yoga is now open in Brown’s Mall in Downtown Gloucester. We teach Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga in a clean and heated (90-95 degrees) room with a view to the sky and out to the harbor. When you come to class you can expect to breathe, move, sweat, work, stretch, and let go of things that you have been holding on to. You can expect to be challenged – and that means that you’re getting stronger and actually improving yourself, not just thinking or talking about it. You’ll be practicing next to construction workers, secretaries, veterans, yoga teachers, mountain bikers, surfers, runners, weightlifters, teenagers, octogenarians, and a guy named Dirt.
That’s Dirt on the right. He loves power yoga.
Our teachers are all well trained to give inspiration to experienced yoga practitioners and guidance to beginners. Power yoga is safe, fun, and challenging. If you practice a lot it will change your life…

DAVID CALVO SHARES A GREAT STORY!
Thank you David for sending this story, not only special because you are a wonderful teacher sharing your talent, but also a tremendous ambassador for Gloucester!
CALVO WOOD CARVING SCHOOL
DAVID WRITES, Over the years I have taught wood carving to many folks from all over the United States. They have also come down from Canada as well as up from Mexico. This week I had the good fortune to have a student from South Korea. Jae Sun Chu who just retired as an engineer for a ship building company with 50,000 employees spent the week with us. He now wants to dedicate his time to becoming proficient in wood carving and traveled on a 18 hour flight to get to our Gloucester and my teaching studio. It was a week of very interesting conversations, exchanging info on current events as well as cultural interests and differences from different points of view. While he was carving, his wife was a tourist visiting all the hot spots on Cape Ann. Jae Sun is pictured below on the right along with Gloria, another student from New York. He leaves for his homeland tomorrow and his next stop is a workshop with a carver from Thailand in November.
Warm regards,
David

Eyewitness Gaza
NORTH SHORE GROUPS HOST EVENT WITH DR. ALICE ROTHCHILD:
EYEWITNESS GAZA: FROM DISASTER TO RESILIENCE
On Sunday, October 25, the North Shore Coalition for Peace and Justice (NSCPJ) together with the Cape Ann Forum, will present Eyewitness Gaza: From Disaster to Resilience with Alice Rothchild, at Gloucester City Hall, 9 Dale Avenue, Gloucester, from 3-5 pm.
Alice Rothchild is a physician, activist, filmmaker, author of “Broken Promises, Broken Dreams,” and producer of the documentary film, “Voices Across the Divide.”
Dr. Rothchild visited the Gaza Strip in March 2015 with a medical delegation as part of broader Israel/Palestine visits. She will share information, images, and impressions of the destruction caused by the Israeli invasion of 2014 and the extraordinary resilience that she encountered, as well as the ongoing siege conditions.
Learn how people currently confined in the Gaza Strip – from farmers to psychiatrists – try to rebuild their lives amidst such extreme devastation and political challenges.
Explore the question: Can the root causes of the conflict be addressed, or is the next deadly outbreak of violence only a matter of time?
The North Shore Coalition for Peace and Justice is a coalition of groups and individuals from the communities of the North Shore of Massachusetts. The coalition came together in the winter-spring of 2001 to support activities of North Shore groups working for peace and justice and to initiate North Shore-wide peace actions.
The Cape Ann Forum is an independent, non-partisan community organization, founded in 2001 to increase public understanding of national and international issues and their connection to people at the local level. Speakers act as catalysts to foster free-wheeling dialogue and debate.
This event is also co-sponsored by the First Universalist Church of Essex, Jewish Voice for Peace, Boston, Merrimack Valley People for Peace, Salem Peace Committee, Unitarian Universalist Society of Rockport, and Veterans for Peace Samantha Smith Chapter 45.
The event is free and open to the public. Please join us. For more information, call 978-283-5030.
Here’s a great new way to appreciate the local art scene
Rick Gadbois just put this site up (www.capeannwalk.com) and thought it would be great to tell people about it via good morning gloucester.
Receiving help from Montserrat College Of Art, Jeff Weaver, and Susan Albiero, we have kicked off this Cape Ann fine arts listing site, the initial project features four artists and 75 or so pieces of artwork. It a mobile friendly web site that serves as a self guided tour, bringing you to the location of each piece of art or historic artifact. The focus is not so much the site, but getting people out and about to explore the area via art & history. I am intending to grow the site over time with help from Montserrat college, and any others that would like to be involved.
