My View of Life on the Dock
It’s a beauty for a poem day. What poem would you share? Along with an original poem from each kid, it’s tradition for us to read and carry Macavity: The Mystery Cat by T S Eliot. You can grab it below the GMG post fold (otherwise known as read more.) The T S Eliot Foundation bought his family’s Gloucester summer home in 2014 and I’m looking forward to hearing more about their plans. You can read more about Eliot in Gloucester on the HarborWalk and TS Eliot on GMG. Gloucester kids can try out their original poem as they ready for Sawyer Free Poetry Without Paper deadline.
When we visited Portland, ME, we walked by the house Henry Wadsworth Longfellow grew up in and that his grandfather built in 1785. You can’t help but walk by it several times as it’s on the beaten path. It was winter and the garden was closed else we would have stepped inside. Pretty sure my kids wouldn’t pick a Longfellow poem for today. For Longfellow in Gloucester.

My hubs Neil asked if I wanted to get out for some fresh air and “stroll” with him last night while he hit a few balls around at Rockport Golf Club. I said sure and grabbed MY golf equipment…(my camera!). It was a nice brisk night on the course and luckily Neil was patient while I selected my shots! So here’s my kind of golfing 😀

Waking from hibernation in the early spring, the perky Frog and the worrywart Toad celebrate and rejoice in the differences that make them unique and special. These two best-friends plant gardens, swim underwater, rake leaves, go sledding, bake cookies, and learn to appreciate each other’s distinct qualities. Part vaudeville, part make-believe, all charm, A Year With Frog and Toad tells the story of a friendship that weathers all seasons. A delightful story based on the picture books by Arnold Lobel, this musical adaptation is a treat for all ages; children and the child within.
Recommended for adults, teens, ‘tweens, youth and children 4+
I’m not always a fan of zoos, but sometimes a day at the zoo can be fairly educational as well as fun. The Franklin Park Zoo does a pretty good job and this in between weather is nice for spending the day without being too hot…or too cold.

If you have Friday off, they are doing some fun Earth Day activities too.
Friday, April 22, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
As always, for a more comprehensive list of family activities, please visit our friends at North Shore Kid

Normally I’m skeptical of BBQ accessories, like burger formers and jalapeno popper stands. but sometimes there are tools that work.
When my Kate surprised me with the Charcoal Companion basting brush I was skeptical at first. I was going to be smoking up some pork ribs that weekend when I’d put it to the test.
Normally the last 45 minutes or so on the smoker I like to spritz or baste my ribs with a mix of apple cider vinegar, BBQ sauce, water. Often times in spray bottles the BBQ sauce clumps up and doesn’t come out evenly.
This was not the case with the Charcoal Companion basting brush. I simple squeeze and just the right amount of liquid came out and the integrated silicon brush helps to spread it exactly where you want it on your ribs.
Clean up is a snap , just toss it in the dishwasher…

I just can’t tell you how exciting it was to see the fine restoration of the Jeff Weaver mural at AJ’s at the Harbor. We haven’t even had a chance to try the restaurant, but they get my vote for Good Eggs of the week for taking care to restore this original Gloucester painting by unquestionably one of Gloucester’s finest painters.
Thank you AJ’s! Best wishes with your new restaurant!

Love the Egrets that come to Cape Ann during this time of the year. Not sure but looks like a Glossy Ibis are there in Clarke Pond as well.

One of my favorite sunset spots is the Annisquam Lighthouse. This image today reminds me that during a full moon the tides are lower and you can get better angles of the Lighthouse depending on the timing. This Thursday is a full moon and the tide will be lowest at 5:45 pm and might make for some nice lighting on the Lighthouse as the sun will be setting at 7:35pm. See all these crazy things your camera makes you look up just to take a photo? So hopefully I’ll venture down and check it out if the weather stays nice!
Not going to lie, don’t know much about this, but each time I scroll through my photos it catches my eye. It is known as The Londoner and is an iron spindle not far off of Thacher’s Island. It marks Londoner’s Ledge.
