Awesome Gloucester Grant – Little Free Library

The Little River Little Free Library was the winner at the most recent Awesome Gloucester Pitch Night, receiving $1000 from the local micro grant foundation to build install and maintain a Little Free Library at Stubby Knowles Landing on Essex Avenue. This free lending library is part of a national movement and joins other LFL’s in Essex and Bay View as a community resource. Watch for more around the city.

Each month the Gloucester chapter of the Awesome Foundation solicits proposals from the community and chooses the top three to attend a public Pitch Night on the evening of the third Monday. Submitters make their case before the 20 local trustees who have each donated $50 toward the monthly award. The top vote getters walk away with $1000 in cash. Proposals to make Gloucester more awesome can be made at Awesome Gloucester.

Jones Creek

The one and only Finn turned 7 yesterday and was very clear about how he wanted to spend the day.  Soccer camp, ice cream, bike riding, paddling boarding, and sushi.  We added the Summer Solstice as a bonus.  Why not.

While the whole day was pretty great, my favorite part of it all was taking the SUPs to Jones Creek and having some quality time with the birthday boy.  With Thatcher off at sailing lessons, Finn and I were able to spend some time on the river, hunt for crabs, and enjoy the view.

Boston Globe on Beauport, Biotech, Windover

“Fishing is going to be our heritage and first priority,” Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken said. But she added, “We’re moving forward.”

Kathleen Conti describes Gloucester Biotechnology Academy and Beauport Hotel as meaningful catalysts. In addition to the Mayor’s quote, there are comments  and points of view shared by several: Sherri Zizik; Vito Giacalone; Gregory Verdine; Ken Riehl, Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce (nice quote); Lee Dellicker, Winhover Construction (Beauport); George Marsh (architect Gloucester Biotechnology). Oh, and the former Mayor of New Bedford, John Bullard. chimes in.

Other new businesses downtown beyond this article include goodlinens opening July 1, Jane Deering Gallery on Pleasant Street, the new bicycle rental shop, and Tonno restaurant. And there’s a new gallery coming to Rocky Neck. More on that later!

Everything works, I’m pretty sure all I need to do is tack the legs to the frame and it’s missing one of the casters. The bowl is in great shape. The charcoal bin is in great shape, the ash sweeps work well.

PASSPORTS WINE DINNER DELIGHT!

We enjoyed yet another outstanding Passports wine dinner event this past Thursday evening, hosted by owner and Chef Eric Lorden and wine expert Matt Rose. Each of the four wonderfully delicious courses was paired with the perfect wine from the Loire Valley of France. And too, my husband and I enjoy so much the welcoming wait staff at Passports. Michael and Sally were our servers and they are always friendly and professional. We especially appreciate their fine and seamless service during the wine dinner events with a dining room bursting with patrons.

IMG_9164My favorite of the wines was the Champalou, Vouvray 2014 accompanying the salad of heirloom tomatoes, Tasso Lardons, Dolce Bleu, fava beans, butter lettuce, and Provencal vinaigrette.

Passports serves lunch and dinner seven days a week. They open at 11:30 am. You’ll love their everyday menu and they also post daily specials on Facebook, which you can check out here. Passports will be resuming their wine dinners in the early fall.

THANKS TO GOOD HARBOR BEACH’S DPW CREW TONY AND MURRAY FOR THE GREAT WORK THEY DO!

Each and every morning the DPW is out there cleaning Good Harbor Beach. They do an absolutely tremendous job. You would be shocked at what people leave behind, and the sheer volume of it. I am usually filming in non-public spaces and it has been an eye opener working at a public beach in the early morning. If you see these guys, please tell them thanks.
