Just in Case…

We’ve been to many hockey rinks since the boys started playing, but the one Thatch’s team played at this weekend has thought of everything.  Nice pro shop, full snack bar, beer, LOTS of advertising for Convenient MD Urgent Care (with its motto “Just Walk In”….which maybe should say, “Just Skate In”) and an Amazing Smiles Dental Clinic. Genius!

Gloucester at the Boston Seafood Show

Al Bezanson submits-

The City of Gloucester is represented at the Boston Seafood Show, a trade only event that runs through Tuesday at the World Trade Center.  Here Rosalee Nicastro is handing out bite size fresh cakes where the main ingredient is hake right off the boat.  The recipe is from the Gloucester Fisherman’s Wives Association.  This exhibition features more than a thousand booths with seafood from all over the world and this product is a standout.

WHAT IS GREEN SCREEN/CHROMA KEY?
Chroma Key or Green Screen is a fantastic tool for filmmaking that opens up so many storytelling opportunities. It isn’t too difficult provided you know the basics and is easy to use for your films whether you are making an independent low budget film or Hollywood Blockbuster.

Green screens are a key tool in a technique called chroma keying. In a basic scenario this may involve a person/subject being filmed standing in front of a green (or blue) screen. Then using an editing program the green color is digitally removed from the video file leaving the person/subject. A new image/video is then layered behind them. If done well it should look as though the person is actually standing in the scenario that is happening in the background.

The ability to chroma key opens up an array of options for filmmakers. For example if you are filming a news story and you need your presenter to look as though they are standing out the front of the Taj Mahal, then you could use this technique instead of ACTUALLY taking a news reporter to the Taj Mahal. It saves a lot of time and money.

Join award-winning local video producer Ted Reed on Tuesday, March 21 at 7PM at Cape Ann TV for Lunch & Learn After Hours “Green Screen 101”.

Sista Felicia, Ma Pat and the Novena girls have been busy prepping for their St. Joseph’s feast tonight.  Typically it is celebrated on the 19th of March but to make sure the college kids who have to head back tomorrow can be here, we are having it tonight.   I wish you could get a whiff of how yummy the freshly made St. Joseph’s bread smells!!! IMG_2163

Gail McCarthy at Sawyer Free to cover Cape Ann Reads picture book contest results !

Scenes from the Cape Ann Reads live reveal in the Byers Davidson Room of the Saunders House at Gloucester Lyceum & Sawyer Free Public Library. This March Madness snapshot just about sums up the feeling!

That’s Kate Bibeau, Programs Coordinator at the Cape Ann Museum, and Liza Browning, Museum Educator at the Cape Ann Museum, jumping up as another contestant identity is revealed to be…a colleague! Also smiling and enjoying the moment, Sawyer Free librarians Justine Vitale and Linda Bosselman, and author and artist Pat Lowery Collins. Kate and the Library Directors had not seen any entries so everything was a surprise. Jurors knew the books but did not know the names of the authors or illustrators as part of the process.

Kate Bibeau has been fantastic on the Cape Ann Reads steering committee. (She was Kate LaChance when the planning began…two years ago!) I took photographs as people were assembling.  Even better: we’ll soon see Linda Bosselman photographs of the unfolding countdown. They’ll be the real deal!IMG_20170318_081217 (1)
