Those April Showers Really Work

My View of Life on the Dock

On Sunday went over to Marshalls to pick up some flowers. When over there one of my favorite activities is visiting the horses, Alpacas, and their birds. Bring your kids over there and watch them become excited watching the Alpacas.

Yes or No? What was Josh’s answer? And who did the asking? The suspense is killing me. Surely the couple will submit a photo of them together at the prom….assuming he did indeed say “yes.”

Weather permitting, Halibut Point State Park and the Gloucester Area Astronomy Club will be hosting a star party Saturday evening, May 27, next to the HPSP Visitor Center. Everyone is invited! Come look through the club’s telescopes at a thin crescent moon, Jupiter and its moons, and an array of distant deep-sky objects like galaxies, nebulae and star clusters. Unless we have overcast skies, GAAC will have telescopes set up from dusk to 10:00 pm for public viewing. Of course there is no cost.
Please park in the paved lot off of Gott Ave and walk the short distance up the hill to the Visitor Center, and please keep white lights to a minimum, so everyone’s eyes get a chance to adapt to the dark.
The Gloucester Area Astronomy Club meets at 8:00 pm on the second Friday of the month at the Lanesville Community Center…

Friend and East Gloucester resident Dan Allen sent along these wonderful snapshots of recent visits by songbirds in his beautiful garden. Dan’s garden is abundant with wildflowers, food, and welcome shelter for birds, bees and butterflies. Thank you Dan!
Nothing common about this gorgeous little warbler, a male Common Yellowthroat. Yellowthroats migrate north from winter homes in Florida, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
Yesterday I posted photos of a male Eastern Towhee. Dan’s photo is of the female! Wherever the male’s feathers are black, the female’s are milk chocolate brown.
The Rose-breasted Grosbeak is another nesting migrant to Cape Ann. They eat fruit, seeds, nuts, insects, and especially Love sunflower seeds. Only the males have this striking feather pattern; the female’s feathers are shaded in quiet tones of gray, tan, and brown. During the winter months, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks live in the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
