Boston is an official port of the Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta. The trans-Atlantic regatta will start in Royal Greenwich, UK. From there the fleet will race to Sines, Portugal, followed by Bermuda. The fleet will then race to Boston, for Sail Boston 2017®. From Boston, the fleet will cruise in company north to Quebec City, Canada.
Sail Boston® will entertain its younger audience with educational programs focusing on US and international maritime history. Cadets and crewmembers will be available to educate children of all ages of their personal experiences at sea, home countries and more.

June 15-17, 2017
The fun starts Wednesday, June 14th, 2017 when 200 tons of imported sand is dropped on Hampton Beach and the “Grady Bunch” starts pounding up the sponsor site. The entire area is illuminated for night viewing through June 28th.

On the Blvd. on Wednesday our little friend Zinnia was fishing with her parents. She caught a fish and was very excited. When it was time to release the fish she said, “we are not going to eat it”. Zinnia is one of the cutest kiddos and just love people and the sea.

Residents, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) workers, and BMC heavy duty construction equipment and vehicles carted the trash to landfills (Deonar, Mulund, Kanjurmarg) which are at capacity struggling with waste management. The United Nations deemed it the “world’s largest beach clean-up project”.

Gloucester Stage Company continues its 38th season of professional theater on Cape Ann with the New England Premiere of Lucy Prebble’s The Effect from June 16 through July 8 at 267 East Main Street, Gloucester, MA. Lucy Prebble’s funny and moving look at medicinal trial and error explores the depths of attraction and attachment, and wonders at the limits of medicine and the ever-elusive rules of the heart. In The Effect Tristan and Connie, volunteers in a controlled drug test, fall in love, but is their chemistry real or induced? The GSC production features Sam Weisman in his Gloucester Stage directing debut and a cast led by GSC favorite Academy Award nominee and Gloucester resident Lindsay Crouse as Dr. Lorna James with GSC newcomers: Saturday Night Live alum Brad Hall as Dr. Toby Sealey; Mickey Solis as Tristan and Susannah Hoffman as Connie. Gloucester Stage is a reunion for Sam Weisman, Lindsay Crouse and Brad Hall. The three worked together in the 1995 feature film Bye Bye Love which was written and produced by Hall; directed by Weisman and starring Crouse.
Lucy Prebble’s The Effect comes to Gloucester after a premiere at the The National Theatre in London and a smash hit extended run at the Barrow Street Theatre in New York last year. Ms. Prebble won the George Devine Award 2004 for her debut play The Sugar Syndromefollowed by the TMA Award for Best New Play in 2004. She also won the 2004 Critics’ Circle Award for Most Promising Playwright. She is the creator of the television series Secret Diary of a Call Girl,starring Billie Piper in the main role. Ms. Prebble’s second play,ENRON, transferred to The West End and Broadway in 2010 after sell out runs at both The Royal Court and Chichester Festival Theatre. Sony has optioned the rights to develop ENRON into a film. ENRONwon Best New Play at the TMA Theatre Awards, and was shortlisted for The Evening Standard Award for Best New Play 2009.

Cape Ann Symphony Celebrates Successful 65th Concert Season
The Board of Directors of the Cape Ann Symphony hosted a pre-concert reception at Innovation House in Magnolia, MA  to celebratethe conclusion of the orchestra’s highly successful 65th season of concerts. According to Cape Ann Symphony Music Director and Conductor, Yoichi Udagawa, ” The 65th season was a resounding success! The musicians and I were so eager to share all the wonderful music with our audiences and the fabulous CAS audiences responded – All of the concerts in the 65th season were sold out! Bravo!”  Invited guests at the season ending celebration included major donors, diplomats representing Scandinavian countries, and members of Cape Ann’s Scandinavian community in recognition of the theme of thefinal concert of the 65th season: “Scandinavian Spectacular,” featuring works by Sibelius, Nielsen and Grieg. A proclamation from Gloucester Mayor Sefatia Romeo-Theken designating the day of the concert, Scandinavian Heritage Day, was read to the crowd of overfifty people, along with similar proclamations from the other Cape Ann municipalities. Congratulatory notes from the consul generals of Norway and Finland were also shared with the reception guests.  Next season, the Symphony’s 66th, opens with a program called “Russian Fireworks” with two performances: Saturday, September 23 at the Manchester-Essex High School Auditorium and Sunday, September 24 in the Dolan Performing Arts Center at Ipswich High School.

Come One Come All to the 65th Annual International Dory Races.  Be part of Gloucester’s heritage and this longstanding tradition of dory racing against our comrades from Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.  The races will be held at the Jordey State Fish Pier starting at 10 AM.  Come down and help cheer on all the rowers and be a part of the festivities.

After suffering the extraordinary trauma of yesterday’s attempted capture, Mr. Swan was seen late in the day by friends, peeking his head out between the reeds. I stopped by to see him this morning at about 6:30, thinking perhaps I would catch a glimpse, and to my utter surprise he was sitting on the edge of the road that divides Pebble Beach from Henry’s Pond. Very deliberately, Mr. Swan was heading to the open ocean. He was obviously extremely weary from the effort, and from the previous day’s event, taking only a few difficult steps at a time, before plopping down, then a few steps more. Slowly and determinedly he made his way.

Friends Lois, Serena, and Skip Monroe stopped by to offer food and encouragement. After at least an hour of effort, he made it to the water’s edge and took off toward Niles Pond (it usually takes him about five minutes to cross the road).

Shortly after we got a call from Lyn that Mr. Swan had arrived safely at Niles Pond. I stopped by Niles on my way to work to see him and he appeared so much happier and relaxed than earlier in the morning. A true survivor, he was gliding and preening and vocalizing. Long live Mr. Swan!
In regards to how old is Mr. Swan, I was reminded by another great Friend of Mr. Swan, Skip Hadden, that Mr. Swan is actually at least TWENTY SEVEN years old!! When Skip arrived at Niles Pond in 1992, Mr. Swan was an adult breeding male with a family (swans do not begin to breed until they are at the very least two years old).
Regarding Mr. Swan’s foot injury, Skip writes, “He has injured this foot in the past. He fell off our roof after crash landing there in turbulent winds circa 2000. Heartily agree in daily monitoring as he is one determined character. He has a strong chance of survival if left to his own devices and our small efforts to assist from a distance.”
Mr. Swan at Niles Pond this morning! I hope he chooses to stay here to recuperate.

I named her Lucy, husband, Ricky, Fred, Ethel, Little Ricky are the babies name.
The D.E.S. (Divino EspĂrito Santo) Portuguese club Celebrated Trinity Sunday, with the over 700 year old Tradition of honoring the Holy Sprit.
National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman Jane Chu announced 89 awards totaling $6.89 million supporting projects across the nation through the NEA’s Our Town program. The Gloucester Lyceum & Sawyer Free Library is the lead organization for a grant of $50,000 to fund five cultural organizations in a project titled “Our Gloucester: Discovering Who We Are Through the Arts.” The NEA received 274 eligible applications for Our Town this year and will make grants ranging from $25,000 to $100,000.
“The arts reflect the vision, energy, and talent of America’s artists and arts organizations,” said NEA Chairman Jane Chu. “The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support projects such as Our Gloucester, to cultivate vitality in their communities through the arts.”
Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken adds: “We are excited and honored to be recommended for a prestigious NEA Our Town Grant. It will provide a great means of bringing all of our communities together to tell the Gloucester Story and to celebrate our diversity, our culture of tolerance and caring, and our heritage in fishing and the arts.”
Five cultural organizations will partner in helping the community of Gloucester answer the questions: “Who are we? What is special about Gloucester? and, What in our culture and heritage is worth protecting and strengthening anew?” The arts, with their power to probe and clarify the deeper truths in society, will be the vehicles for this search and reflection, through both ensemble performances and community-wide discussions. Each partner will engage a broad cross section of citizens through a different art form — theater, music, storytelling, and literature. The answers to these questions can help lay the groundwork for community development initiatives and investments based on the values and assets of “Our Gloucester.”
The Gloucester Lyceum and Sawyer Free Library will present a speaker’s series focusing on innovation in Gloucester. The series will continue a rich tradition of speakers at the library since the founding of the Gloucester Lyceum in 1830.
The Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation will present four weekend programs of music reflecting Gloucester’s diverse ethnic community at the historic Universalist Church.
The Gloucester Writers Center is planning three storytelling Fish Tales events, featuring Gloucester school children, ages 12–18; fishing, maritime, and schooner stories; and Gloucester neighborhoods.
Mosaic Gloucester is a large-scale community oral history and mosaic mural project. Launched with the support of the Gloucester Arts and Culture Initiative, the Mass Cultural Council, and Americold, Mosaic Gloucester will bring the people of Gloucester together to tell stories, make tiles, and create a visual depiction of Gloucester. The result will be a beautiful, large mosaic panel hanging in public view on Americold’s building at 69 Rogers Street.
The Folklore Theatre Company will bring together a collaborative playwriting circle of local artists and community members to craft a play centered around a historic meal of diverse Church members in Gloucester. Nine performances will take place in April, 2018.
The Gloucester Cultural Initiative, a new non-profit successor to the MCC-funded Gloucester Arts and Culture Initiative, the group which facilitated the Our Town grant application, will play the role of project manager for Our Gloucester.
