As always, we were in search of a blog post so we visited the Crane Estate to view the modern maze structure recently installed on the site of the former maze at the mansion. This artwork is called TunnelTeller by its artist Alicja Kwade. It has concrete walls and steel tubing highlighted by spheres of various sizes. These spheres are polished stone and placed strategically around the maze area. It’s not a complex maze, you will not get lost.

Peering through the steel tunnels gives an “other-worldly” effect contrasting the steel and concrete with the trees and sky.

It’s an interesting piece that will be on display for several months. Admission to the estate for non-members such as ourselves is $15 (free on weekdays to Ipswich residents) and can be applied to Crane Beach parking ($25 in the high season) if you are so inclined.
Feather & Wedge invites you to join them Sunday, April 29, 10:30 to 2:30 for a Jazz Brunch featuring guitarist Harry Wagg. Harry will be performing a variety of traditional jazz, contemporary classics and original tunes, all arranged for solo guitar.

This class is wicked fun, low pressure, and ACCESSIBLE to people of all ages, athletic abilities, and flexibility. Enjoy a beautiful vista of Gloucester Harbor as the sounds, sights, and smells of America’s Oldest Seaport help to ground you and really start your weekend day off with gratitude and presence. It’s a great place to meet other active, healthy, and bright eyed locals.
Be sure to dress appropriately for a morning wake-up on Gloucester’s working waterfront – it never hurts to have a comfortable, larger sweatshirt – you can always take it off! If the weather is foul – we will do our best to announce cancellation of the class an hour in advance on the announcement bar on our website and facebook page.
Class is $15 if you’re just dropping in, and only $10 if you are a member of Maritime Gloucester or have a regular priced unlimited membership…

The East Gloucester “Plastic Pick it Up” club is kicking off the summer with neighborhood lemonade stands. All the proceeds go towards initiatives to help rid Gloucester of plastic pollution. Last year they donated the amazing sum of $540.00 to the Cape Ann Maritime Partnership (CAMP) to help purchase a Seabin and Marine Skimmer, marine technologies designed to clean up oil and plastic garbage.
When you see one of their pop up lemonade stands, stop for a delicious glass of homemade lemonade and donate what you can. Thank you!

The Magnolia Pier is still standing but can not be used, very dangerous. When I was kayaking decided not to go under the pier.

“The Sun, the Moon, but Mostly the Stars,” a unique program of jazz standards and original compositions created to celebrate the Japanese Star festival, Tanabata, headlines the first of two concerts at the Annisquam Village Churchin July. Slated for 7/7 at 8 pm (July 7th is the date of the Tanabata festival), the Billy Novick Trio incorporates the cosmic atmospherics with celestial jazz: Billy Novick on clarinet and keyboards, Swiss-born Gabriela Martina on vocals, and Dave Clark on Bass.
Projections of the summer sky will serve as background with a lively intermission ‘pageant’; a reception follows, with ‘star bites’ and punch for all.
“A Centennial Tribute to Leonard Bernstein” on July 22 at 8 PM shines more starlight on this celebrated American composer in a review of Bernstein’s best-loved works. A reception follows.
