NAKED HOUSE KEEPING

Stopping today to purchase a birthday treat for my daughter at one of our favorite Gloucester shops, which is run by a lovely and capable senior lady, with all senior citizen employees, and the conversation went something like this. Me, “It’s so nice and cool in here. I am not looking forward to going home and cleaning my house in this heat. Senior lady #1, “wear something cool my dear.” Senior lady customer #2, “or just go naked.” #3, “good idea.” #2 adds, “just be sure to pull the drapes closed.”

Our home is without air conditioning, but we usually have a cooling cross breeze coming up from the harbor. Not in this weather though. I wonder if back in the day, sans air conditioning, naked house keeping was a thing?

Gloucester artist Jeff Weaver was born in 1953 in Framingham, Massachusetts. He began drawing and painting at an early age, and by the age of fourteen he began accepting portrait commissions. In high school he was an award winning young artist, winning competitions in state-wide competitions. During this time his teacher and mentor was Eleanor Marvin, accomplished sculptor and graphic artist, who nourished his draftsmanship skills. After graduating from high school, he studied at the Boston Museum School. In 1972 he moved to Gloucester, sketching and painting the waterfront on an almost daily basis. In his early years in the city, he supported himself at various waterfront jobs, as well as from commissions for boat portraits from fishing vessel captains, and murals for commercial establishments and private homes. His commercial work spanned many years and includes over thirty murals painted in different parts of the city. Returning to fine art…

ANIMAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING TONIGHT

Animal Advisory Committee meeting tonight at 6:30 at City Hall: Piping Plovers on the Agenda

Photo of Great Blue Herons, because we share the shore with herons, too 🙂

Late Wednesday afternoon view

As I was emptying the butt butlers in Magnolia the harbor looked so pretty.  Also thank you all for using the butt butlers instead of throwing them on the ground.

Classic Cooks Cafe adds a downtown location

Prepared meals and soup and sandwiches to go. Classic Cooks Cafe  and full service catering can be found at 27 Eastern Avenue (back of the Masonic Lodge by Veterans Elementary School and Russel’s florist), Cape Ann Farmers Market, and this new space next to Orange Leaf, 102 Rogers Street. Easy sandwich from two stops- one small container of pulled pork from Classic Cooks paired with Alexandra’s cobbles was scrumptious I’m told.
