Construction along Thatcher road and its new marsh walkway to Good Harbor Beach continues. The guard rail replacement is underway with a wood element coming soon. The access breaks caught my eye.

This tree at Stage Fort Park brought the Pete Seeger song to mind.  “To everything (turn, turn, turn) There is a season (turn, turn, turn) And a time to every purpose under heaven”

The changing state of the leaves on this tree also symbolizes how I feel about the changing season. Part of me is ready for fall….that part of the tree reaching to the sky and sun. Another part of me (the nice green leaves) wouldn’t mind a few more summer-like days.

This year our Keynote speaker is Nancy Frates. Nancy’s son Pete Frates was diagnosed with ALS in 2012. Since then they have worked together to bring public awareness to this terrible disease with the very successful Ice Bucket Challenge, where they have raised over $220 million for ALS research. Nancy is a very inspiring speaker and we warmly welcome her to Cape Ann.

A congregation of egrets has many collective names including skewer, siege, sedge, wedge, and congregation. I like the names siege and congregation and the above photo shows a siege of Great Egrets and Snowy Egrets preening after a day of fishing in Jones River Salt Marsh.
