Harborlight will be spending two full weeks learning all there is to know about the world of theatre at Gloucester Stage Company. At the end of the two weeks they will perform an original show. Thanks to the amazing team at Gloucester Stage and Harborlight’s Performing Arts Director, Katie Oberlander, students will have the opportunity to learn what it takes to pull off a professional production….from soup to nuts.
Earlier this week teams from both organization met to structure the week. So many exciting components are in the works and the two-week session promises to be one that these students never forget.

Harborlight Players, grades 4-8
This two-week course takes students to Gloucester Stage Company (GSC) for an intensive experience in theatre production, on stage and backstage. In addition to acting, students participate in all aspects of production, including box office management, lighting and set design, auditions and casting, costumes and props. Actors, assistant directors, stage managers, designers, and marketing and sales are all part of what it takes to stage an original production, which is what the students do on the GSC stage as the culmination of their theatre experience.
Harborlight Montessori in Beverly is ecstatic to be debuting Experience Weeks this year. For six weeks, one in February, two in March, one in April, and two in June, students (both enrolled at Harborlight and from elsewhere) can participate in rich, exciting, experiential, and fun Experience Weeks.
The two week collaboration with Gloucester Stage is just one example. Students from other schools are invited to join us during February vacation, April vacation, and the last two weeks of June as well! See what is happening during your child’s school vacation! BREAKING NEWS: INSTITUTE FOR SAVINGS ROBBED, SUSPECT APPREHENDED

A man suspected of holding up the Institution for Savings bank outlet on Parker Street in Gloucester moments after 9 Monday morning has been captured by police in Lynn.
The man, whose identify has not yet been released, was taken into custody as he came off a bus in Lynn, Gloucester interim police Chief John McCarthy has confirmed. The suspect had apparently ridden it there while trying to escape from Gloucester.
Gloucester and Massachusetts State Police had been searching for a man described as being in his 30s and wearing with a black hat and black sweatshirt who reportedly held up the bank branch at 4 Parker St. in Gloucester about an hour after the branch opened at 8 a.m. McCarthy said he anticipates the suspect will be arraigned Tuesday in Gloucester District Court.
A sign placed on the bank door by 9:30 a.m. indicated that the facility was temporarily closed while offering an apology to customers for their “inconvenience.” The bank’s drive-up windows and automated teller machine were also shut down on the exterior of the building.

Meet the New Owners:
Lucas and Caroline are avid readers, oddity and vintage collectors, and used bookstore junkies. In fact, they first met in a bookstore in Big Sur, CA! The privilege of owning something as special as Dogtown Books is a cherished, lifelong dream for them both. They will ensure Dogtown Books remains Gloucester’s best destination for used books, and will prioritize inclusion, accessibility, creativity, and a feeling that when you come in the door, you’re always welcome.
Lucas is a writer and visual artist, and before owning Dogtown Books he toured as a lighting designer for over 15 years with bands such as The Strokes, Interpol, Arcade Fire, and Death Cab for Cutie, just to name a few. Caroline has been a professor at Berklee College of Music for almost a decade, and she continues to tour and lecture worldwide with her original writing and curriculum. Her grandparents owned a home near Niles Beach, sadly taken long ago in a storm, and she is proud to be among four generations of her family to call Gloucester home. Ladybird Johnson is their 6 year old Shar Pei, and while she might not be able to read (yet), she plans on sleeping and quietly snoring in the store.

THRILLING TO SEE SWANS FLYING OVER THE TWIN LIGHTHOUSES!
Friday afternoon, after the nor’easter, the sun came out just barely before the skies again darkened with a brief snow squall. I was driving along Atlantic Road during those fleeting in between moments when way off in the distance I spied a flock of birds, with the distinct shape of swans in flight. Swans fly with their long necks extended, unlike herons and egrets, which fly with their necks tucked in. What is Mr. Swan doing out in this wildly windy weather I thought. But it wasn’t Mr. Swan, it was an entire family of Swans! There were two adults and four cygnets. Stunning to see and very uplifting. They flew over the Twin Lights and then further and further until I could not see them any longer.
The first and third swans are the adults, the second, fourth, fifth and sixth are the cygnets, or first-hatch year juveniles.The young swans will retain their grayish brown feathers until their second summer.
