Charge Up Your Bike Riding Experience at Cape Ann Electric Bikes
GMG Jimmy has been thinking about getting himself a bicycle and when we heard about Cape Ann Electric Bikes, we just had to go see them at 214 Eastern Ave Gloucester ( The Commons). These are bicycles equipped with battery power designed to give the rider an extra boost as needed. And I believe Jim may need an extra boost now and again getting himself from here to there, so it would relieve me a great deal to know he had some extra power at his fingertips. As manager/owner Kathy told us, electric bikes allow you to do what you’ve always done and accommodates the rider’s needs so we can go further together (well, the royal “we” anyhow). Jim was allowed to take a ride, which definitely brought a smile to his face. Rentals are available by the day or weekend. We are giving this serious consideration, so if you are curious I encourage you to stop in and talk to Kathy. Take the ride! It’s a game changer for those of us whose minds are much younger than our bodies are.

WREN OF THE WOODLAND
Flying in to the distinct squarish hole, then flying out to perch at the top of the old tree, then off to find insects for her brood, and then back again. Repeat, repeat, repeat. This mama wren was tirelessly feeding her hungry family, returning dozens and dozens of times with a mouth full insects in the very brief time I stopped to look.
I’m not sure exactly what species this is–she has a short tail like Winter Wren and is nesting in a tree cavity, near fresh water, which is common for Winter Wrens. Her tail is too long to be a House Wren. If any of our readers know for sure, please write. Thank you 🙂

ANNOUNCES
“QUARRY DANCE VllI” 2019
At HALIBUT POINT STATE PARK around Babson Farm Quarry
Performances are:
Friday, July 26th at 5:30pm
Saturday, July 27th at 11:00am and 4:30pm new time!
Sunday, July 28th at 1:00pm.
Windhover Performing Arts Center has presented dynamic and exciting Quarry Dances at various quarries located throughout the Cape Ann area for the past seven years. This year, Windhover returns to the pristine site where the first quarry dance was performed 8 years ago. Situated in front of the ocean as the backdrop, Babson Farm Quarry was once an active granite quarry which was abandoned in 1929, thus opening the way to its life as a site of natural beauty.
As in previous years, the remarkable Dušan Týnek Dance Theatre will create a site-specific modern dance around the quarry that features ledges, cliffs and stunning views. As in previous years, Russ Gershon, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and leader of the bands Either/Orchestra and Lookie Lookie in the Boston area will accompany all four performances.
Performances of Quarry Dance Vlll are free and open to the public. No reservations are necessary, however all performances are weather dependent. If there is rain, that performance will be cancelled. The duration of each performance is approximately one hour and fifteen minutes.

Parking will take place at Windhover Performing Arts Center in the field by the Windhover sign, located close to 247 Granite Street as your GPS guide. Parking at Windhover is for all four performances. There are shuttles from there, provided by Beauport Ambulance Service and Ride on Transportation starting one hour before the performances which will transfer people to the site, and then return shuttles after the performances for 30-40 minutes. It is a short walk from Windhover to Halibut Point State Park, for those who wish to walk… about ten minutes.
Volunteers will usher the way for those on foot. (Please note that parking will not be available at Halibut Point State Park, since the lot fills up fast, plus there is a mandatory fee for parking.)
Seating is on a first-come first-served basis. Chairs will be provided, although you are welcome to bring your own. You are encouraged to bring blankets and sit on the ground in front of the quarry if you like. Feel free to bring water. Space is limited, and seats cannot be reserved.
For further information, please check the Windhover website at www.windhover.org

Closing Talk for Eviction | Destruction | Renewal: An Exhibition About Resiliency
Three Artists: Susan Greer Emmerson, Tatiana Flis and Rebecca Skinner – Closing Talk: Sunday, July 28, 4:00-5:00 PM
Cultural Center at Rocky Neck
6 Wonson Street, Gloucester, MA
Gallery open: Thursday-Sunday, 12:00-6:00 PM
On Sunday, July 28, 2019, the public is invited to join artists Susan Greer Emmerson, Tatiana Flis, and Rebecca Skinner for an informal tour and Q+A session about their exhibition, Eviction | Destruction | Renewal: An Exhibition About Resiliency.. The artists will address major themes of the exhibition and offer details and anecdotes on how the show came together and their individual processes. Visitors are welcome to ask questions along the way.
Countless forms of destruction are seen throughout our world. Natural disasters tear up the landscape, pushing buildings into the sea and boats to the mountains. The economy fluctuates from financial security into debt and poverty. Addiction leads to neglect and loss, and eviction plagues most social classes. It is when the light shines through the devastation that humanity expresses its deepest secrets, needs, and resilience. The Rocky Neck Art Colony explores the notions of destruction, natural disasters, financial insecurity, addiction and eviction through the creative eyes of the three artists featured in Eviction | Destruction | Renewal: An Exhibition About Resiliency.
In this exhibition, artists Susan Greer Emmerson, Tatiana Flis, and Rebecca Skinner share their perspectives on darkness, loss, and renewal of the human condition. By combining photography, sculpture, drawing and mixed-media installations each artists takes their personal reflections and shares unique stories about the worlds we create. The imagery ranges across abandoned buildings, demolished homes, and stoic figures to create a dynamic visual experience.
