Gloucester Stage: 2020 Season Postponed to Summer 2021

For the safety of our valued patrons, artists, and staff, we have decided to postpone our 2020 Season and shift all productions to 2021. When we began planning our response to COVID-19 in the beginning of March, we knew this was a potential outcome; but we were also confident in our ability to remain flexible if there was to be the possibility of presenting on stage. This is not an easy decision to make, but safety is paramount.

If you had a subscription or individual tickets, you should have heard from our box office manager, Billy Burgoyne. To make an exchange, donation, or refund, you can reach him at boxoffice@gloucesterstage.com – Onsite office hours are limited, so voicemail response time has increased.

In keeping with our mission to produce world-class theater on Cape Ann and finding ways to continue to support artists, we are developing several new digital opportunities this summer:

  • Taking full advantage of our NeverDark Series (more aptly named than ever) to film staged readings of new plays for future consideration;
  • Highlighting local storytellers through virtual events like Fish Tales later this month; and
  • Bringing archived content from our stage, back to life on your home TV.

Gloucester Stage will miss out on over $620,000 in revenue this year, but thanks to a successful 40th Season and donors like you, we are in a safe place to weather this storm. The board and staff are committed to making sure there will be a successful 2021 Season, and for that, as well as staging virtual programming and completing our bathroom renovations, we need your continued support.

Please consider a contribution of any size to Gloucester Stage’s COVID19 Response Fund and thank you for helping anyway you can during this unprecedented time.

Congratulations, RHS Class of 2020

I love the congratulatory messages around Gloucester and Rockport that serve as well wishes to this year’s graduating seniors.  Our hearts truly go out to the kids who are wrapping up their school careers without the usual fanfare and celebration.  This giant message sends a giant message.

Horribles Parade and Fireworks Cancelled for 2020

If you are like me, you are just starting to dream about making summer plans….July 3/4 near the top of that list. I had dreams of a Beauport Hotel staycation for the fireworks July 3 but that’s not going to happen this year. Totally understandable and not unexpected and now you can make different plans for the holiday.

According to the Gloucester Fireworks Facebook page, the July 3 2020 fireworks are cancelled but they are still in debt from last year’s show, so you can help by sending any donations (even $5) to The Gloucester Fund.

From the Gloucester Fireworks Facebook page:

So very sad to have to report this news. However due to lack of interest in donations coupled with the state of the current situation we are cancelling the July 3rd fireworks this year. For those that still want to help we are in need of over $5,000 to pay for last year’s show. Please donate if you can.

If everyone that has seen our most recent post about canceling the fireworks show this July 3rd sent in just $5, we would have almost enough money to pay off last year’s bills. PLEASE DONATE TODAY! https://www.thegloucesterfund.org/donate/

In addition, the Horribles Parade and Concert are also cancelled according to DiscoverGloucester.com.

This is difficult news but we need to remember we are all in this together and better days are coming for sure.

Celebrating International Nurse’s Day: Nominate your Favorite Cape Ann Nurses

Karen Pischke BSN, RN's avatarCape Ann Wellness

Today is International Nurses Day, the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale.

Healing Through Cleanliness: Infection Prevention and Control is an essential part of today’s healthcare. Florence Nightingale can be credited for this important practice. Her philosophy of cleanliness and sanitation in order to prevent infection in hospitalized patients began during the Crimean War and has had a lasting and major impact on infection control in hospitals to this day. Nightingale’s approach to health care was holistic, and she also emphasized nutrition as a way of improving or preventing infection. She is credited as the founder of holistic nursing, and she also stressed ‘evidence-based’ practice.

Infection Prevention and Control. Many of today’s procedures for preventing hospital acquired infections (HAI’s) include standard, contact, droplet, airborne and universal precautions. Each precaution has specific guidelines, policy and protocols. Florence Nightingale spoke of these as the means for preventing infection control in the 1850’s…

Huge Thanks To The Team At Three Lanterns Ship Supply

So looking at the hull of our boat there was a decent amount of yellow staining on the hull.

I was thinking we were going to have to compound it out.

I went down to Three Lanterns and came across Star Brite Hull Cleaner AND Sea Choice Hull Cleaner. Looked like the same exact packaging. Had the same wording on the back, but different front label and name. The Sea Choice one was about half the cost of the Star Brite.

Brought both up to the counter and the salesperson told me essentially they’re the same stuff saving me $$$.

Brought home the Sea Choice and went to work on the boat. It was really easy. I highly recommend the product.

The hull needs wax and that’s about it!

Thanks Three Lanterns Ship Supply for providing essential services to the local maritime industry!

David Collins Has Some Nice Things To Say

David Collins says:

Hi, Pat!

I just wanted to thank you and Joey and all the other GMG authors as well as Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken for giving us every day through Joey’s blog, some wonderful diversions, whether witty, whimsical, funny, serious, instructive, informative, practical, historical, tasty or any way otherwise at a time we so need it.

I may not live in Gloucester any longer but I very much appreciate being able to keep in touch this way with the place and its amazing people – and that means the world to me. Please, stay Gloucester Strong!

Russell Orchards is Open!

Hello cider donuts and Ice Cider! Russell Orchards has opened for the season with a few changes in place. Some to protect customers and workers like plastic guards. Some for the future like a wine tasting area! It’s still a little chilly, but my heart warmed right up when I saw they were open.

Geraniums Do Attract Hummingbirds !

I think this is what fellow GMG contributor Charlene Delaney meant when she suggested red geraniums to help attract hummingbirds. Thanks Charlene! How are you doing over there Joey?

Hummingbird War Day Two: More Of The Same

Dalpiaz rubs my nose in her hummingbird feeder success while the well is dry as a bone despite multiple feeder initiatives

😢

I can just picture that rotten Pat Dalpiaz sitting at her table rubbing her greedy little hands together and giggling every time another hummingbird stops by at her feeder while I wallow away in misery staring out wistfully at our hummingbird abyss.
