My View of Life on the Dock

I always love the late fall sunsets. Thursday evening did not disappoint.

Ephemeral….

After several months in the works, Arts Abound is very pleased to announce that we now have an e-commerce site. It is now easier than ever to support local artists and your favorite small business and get your holiday shopping done quickly and easily.
We can ship to you or save you a few dollars and do curbside pickup. There is quite a variety of handcrafted, unique items to choose from. New items will be added periodically so be sure to check back often.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!
This month marks our one-year anniversary of being in business. Without a doubt it has been an interesting year to start a small business! We have loved sharing our art with every customer who comes to the gallery. Arts Abound has also enjoyed meeting so many talented artists and having the opportunity to speak with them about their craft. Family has been very supportive in this new venture, as have friends such as Kathy, our fearless customer service representative, and Donna, our cheerleader/community outreach person. Meeting new customers and seeing old ones continues to be very gratifying. In this current and uncertain economic climate, it is critical to support our small local businesses if you want them to survive. Please remember Arts Abound when you need gifts for friends and family, or for yourself.

“Created by renowned sculptor Anna Hyatt Huntington, the World War I Memorial was presented to the City of Gloucester by the French Government in 1921 and rededicated in 2001 honoring the sons of Gloucester who gave their lives during the Great War. Located at the traffic circle between Washington and Middle Streets, this impressive sculpture features Joan of Arc on horseback.”

Works of art represent Museum’s growing collection

Banner rendition; actual banners were hung Nov. 5.
GLOUCESTER, MASS. (Nov. 5, 2020) – The Cape Ann Museum Green campus is now showcasing seven new banners on the exterior wall of the Janet & William Ellery James Center, featuring works from the Museum’s collection after they were installed today.
The installation of banners is an integral part of the Museum’s bold vision behind the creation of the newCape Ann Museum Green (CAM Green). The nearly four-acre campus is also home to the White Ellery House (1710), an adjacent Barn (c. 1740), and the Babson-Alling House (c.1740). In recent weeks, the Museum welcomed visitors to seeCAM Green and view the exhibit produced in collaboration with The Open Door Food Pantry, entitled The Porch-Rait Project.

So a customer came by the dock today and offered me a beverage. I was working and didn’t really think much of it but after he opened it up for me and looked at me like he would be insulted if I didn’t accept his generous offering I chugged 2/3 of it down. It was ok tasting i guess, obviously sweet.

The problem is when I go to enter it in my Lose It! app I see that it’s 270 calories! 270!

Ugh. The reason it all clicks is that normally I enter my morning coffee or tea and the calorie count is a measly 5 or 0. All I can think of was how stupid it was to use those calories out of my recommended daily calorie consumption for weight loss on a gross sweet beverage instead of a tasty mid morning or mid afternoon snack.
Instead of consuming the 270 gross malt beverage I could have had a super tasty treat that would have satisfied me far more.
So for my friends out there check out this article from Food Network with awesome meals for under 250 calories that I could have had instead of this dumb sugary drink. click teh link to check out the entire article:
Rather than grabbing something from the vending machine, try making one of these healthy snacks from Food Network. They’ll tide you over until the next meal and give you some added nutrients in the process.

Hey there! You’ve been invited by a friend to join them on Lose It!!
A note from Joey C:
“I love this app because it helps me stay on track with my goals. Use this link for a free week of Lose It! Premium, and let’s do this together!”

Set-up and first night’s Fox capture!!

Update, first night after setting it up we have a fox come through at 1:30AM!

Like much of our lives right now, toy drives and “holiday stores” will need to look different this year. With current restrictions preventing us from opening our doors and welcoming parents in to select gifts as they have in the past, Action Inc., Pathways for Children, & Wellspring House, Inc. are collaborating to make sure that all Cape Ann children are still able to enjoy a magical holiday!
With so many families struggling with lost wages, lack of childcare, and financial instability, we know the need in our community will be greater than ever this year. Donation to the Cape Ann Kids Holiday Fund will allow us to provide gift cards for hundreds of families in need. Gift cards will offer families the safest, most flexible option to provide that special gift for their children.
To ensure families have time to shop locally or online, cards will be given out the first week of December. We will be accepting cash donations towards the Cape Ann Kids Holiday Fund through December 1st. To make a gift, just click the button below. Please give generously and encourage other caring businesses and individuals to do the same.

Went into Bravo by the Sea in Manchester by the Sea. As soon as I walked inside the smell was incredible. Beth was very generous and gave me a pizza to bring home. Cannot wait to eat the pizza for dinner.
