Don’t Lose Heart

Our Valentine card fundraiser at Local Colors Artists’ Cooperative at 121 Main Street, Gloucester began Friday, January 15th. The event is called “Don’t Lose Heart.” We are excited to offer handmade cards where 100% of the proceeds go to The Open Door to provide food to residents of Cape Ann. A few of our artists have designed a card which also includes a small gift such as a carved heart in a beach stone by Ann Schlecht, a ceramic heart pin made by Peter Black, a matted card photograph by Jim Sousa ready for framing or a semi precious gemstone heart by Kathy Bucholska.

Other members have created unique Valentine cards with special designs and messages that you won’t find anywhere else. Our current hours are Friday and Sunday 12 to 5 and Saturday 10 to 6. Stop by and purchase a card for a special person while supporting your local community.

Boston Globe’s Fresh Start Initiative

I recently saw that the Boston Globe in undertaking an initiative they are calling “Fresh Start” which is intended to allow people named in stories to “appeal their presence in older stories published on our websites.” The Boston Globe states that they are “looking inward at our own practices that have disproportionately affected communities of color.”

I find this to be very interesting and worth consideration for those affected. As many of you know, I consider myself a family historian and therefore rely heavily on newspapers to further that research. The idea that some stories might get a re-work initially caused me to think to myself “Hey, wait a minute….”. But, as I considered the stories of a number of friends and acquaintances whose lives were severely and adversely affected by news coverage, I sat back and thought about it again. When the news is sensationalistic, the stories often appear front and center especially in local newspapers. When people are found to be innocent or wrongly accused, that news often does not appear as prominently. The initial story often changes as it develops but isn’t always covered in the same manner.

So I applaud the efforts of the Boston Globe and others undertaking similar efforts to right past wrongs. If you feel you might qualify here’s a link for you to check out. If you do not live in the Boston Globe coverage area, a newspaper or media outlet in your area might be ‘revisiting the past for a better future.” I hear it’s all the rage…….

Tamie Rodolosi has some nice things to say after hearing our glowing review of 525 on today’s GloucesterCast

Hi Joey
I just wanted to personally thank you! It has been a very difficult time for my husband Larry & I! We have had to cut so many costs so I do the social media & marketing. I feel like I have no idea how to do it so your compliment meant a lot! I also do all the cleaning and missed the live podcast this am because I was at 525 cleaning the bathrooms which I do throughout the night while open as well, so mentioning how clean they were also meant a lot to me. Larry works full time on top of the restaurant so it means a lot to him to hear such good feedback since he works an average of 100-110 hrs a week! Two of our kids who are in college have been helping in the kitchen because we can’t find staff! Vanessa made the pizza and nachos so she was so happy to hear you liked them as well! From the bottom of my heart I think you!!!! Please thank the others for me! Just when I felt like giving up you helped me feel positive again!!

Whoever was the genius behind creating the Tonno Pumpkin and Sage Old Fashion deserves ALL the gold stars.

I’m not sure who thought these ingredients made sense but if you try it I’m sure you’ll agree it’s absolutely outrageous.

Hot off the press, Disney Songs! I had a lot of fun finding new versions of most of these well known tunes. A few are the originals but most are new takes. I wanted to focus the routine on the hands and feet as these are the parts of the body we take the most for granted, until they are painful.

So join us and we’ll have fun singing and dancing to Disney Songs. Here’s a sneak preview of one of my favorite finds, an a cappella version of“I Wanna Be Like You”from the Jungle Book sung by DCappella.

For Restorative Yoga, find some cushions, large books, yoga blocks, blankets, whatever you can use instead of bolsters and blocks. We make it work. For more information on Restorative yoga, check out my site, niawithlinda.com. It is a lovely passive practice that gives the participant relaxation and calm. Who…
