Passports Awaits

We had dinner at Passports last weekend and it was wonderful, as I knew it would be. They were very busy on Mother’s Day but our server Teely never let on that she was swamped. We had our drinks and dinner at a lovely leisurely pace looking out the window onto Main Street, where Passports and other restaurants have their outdoor dining set up. I took Joey’s recommendation to try the Steak au Poivre with steamed vegetables and rice. Outstanding treat. Jim has the Sister’s Haddock with mashed potatoes and ate every bite. It was a wonderful evening as we felt safely distanced with masked staff hustling around. Thanks to all for making me feel spoiled.

First Ever Opening Day at Polar Park for the Worcester Red Sox.

Polar Park, home to the Worcester Red Sox, or WooSox, opened today with not just a season opener but a full-fledged ballpark opener! It was a much anticipated day for many. Certainly the players, fans, and the organization, but also the city of Worcester. At the end of a well-executed day of festivities, the home team was victorious 8-5 over the Syracuse Mets.

The WooSox Smiley Ball had an epic day of his own surrounded by some favorite mascot friends.

First Cruise Ship of the Year — pat morss

Yesterday afternoon a small cruise ship from American Cruise Lines, that has a New England, Nova Scotia, St Lawrence Seaway itinerary, came into Gloucester. The only oddity was there were no passengers – was she relocating in anticipation of relaxed COVID-19 restrictions?

Hauling the docking line in on the pier
Fully secured
Behind me at Rose’s Marine, the new and the old
What could be better for sunset dinner than fresh mussels?
And they must be accompanied by a mulled puddle cocktail
Woe, that was good!

We noticed for former Supreme Roast Beef on Main Street is under new management as Kings. I believe there’s also a King’s Famous Roast Beef in Salem (same logo).

The Studio is Open and Sushi is Back!

Last year we were lucky to be able to enjoy dining at the Studio Restaurant on Rocky Neck, but the sushi bar remained closed. This year sushi is back. We had reservations for Mother’s day and ordered several different rolls. Click the link to see the others.

Snowy Owl Still at Parker River

We took at ride to Parker River Wildlife Refuge on Mother’s Day and came across this bittersweet sight. We are not birders, but we know enough to understand that snowy owls typically leave this area well before now to return north. We don’t know what is keeping this one around but it seemed to me to act sick or in distress. It’s mouth was wide open several times in the few minutes that we stuck around and I have not seen that too often in other snowy owl encounters. It was tough to watch but I am going to share it anyhow to remind us all that Mother Nature knows what She is doing…….
