Flying Dragon Antiques in Essex

We like to stop by the Flying Dragon in Essex and just browse around the store for interesting items. This time we bought some old but functional and decorative salt and pepper shakers. There’s always a great deal to look at here at Flying Dragon. Don’t forget to check out the little barn along the side! And the signage in the front window changes to reflect the goings-on, so that’s always something to watch for.

ย ย ยทย We just got word that more of the Zodiacs we have on order have started to show up on the Production Log roster. This means that we’ll be seeing more of them roll in as we approach the New Year. This week’s featured incoming boat is a Medline 580. Some of you may be already familiar with this model, but the color schemes have been updated to now feature a very yachty white-on-white look. Think of this one as a bigger and more comfortable Yachtline. She’ll be rigged with a Yamaha 115 for plenty of oomph. She’s rated for 12 persons (comfortable seating for ๐Ÿ˜Ž and has lots of storage in big lockers at bow and stern. Let us know if you want more info.

If I ran for Govenor Of Massachusetts I’d Run On A Single Platform- I’d Fire Everyone That Builds Massachusetts Highways and Hire Any Crew From Other Parts Of The Country That Constructs Entire Highways In Weeks.

It is absolutely OUTRAGEOUS that small stretches of highway go years all screwed up and under construction and it doesn’t just affect one or two people, it affects the quality of life of the people of the entire state that drive.

Just ridiculous and I’d love for one person to give a reasonable explanation why these stretches take years to get done.

2:45 PM Danvers (not rush hour)-

Rapid Bridge Replacement in the highway on 7 days Timelapse (Not Danvers)

Also Not Danvers- Replacement of U.S. Route Nos. 1&9 and 46 Bridge Over Jones Road under budget and ahead of schedule using accelerated bridge construction

1640 Hart House for Dinner

Thanks to Mark Ring for suggesting the 1640 Hart House in Ipswich! We had dinner there recently and left there saying to ourselves: “Well, that was fun!”. It advertises itself as featuring Elegant Country Dining, but don’t let that intimidate you as it did me at first. It’s apparently an old home made into a restaurant so the seating can be in any of several rooms. The room we were in included a bar and a fireplace, dark wood beams and comfy big chairs. You can see from the pictures that it was a bit dark in the room (you might want to bring some extra lighting along if you are of a certain age……) but this did not deter from the enjoyment of the atmosphere and food.

Jim had the Hart House chicken and I treated myself to the Grilled Tenderloin. The spring roll appetizer was especially delicious. The pace is relaxed and efficient. The food was done to perfection and the service was friendly and “just right”. Reservations are highly recommended and we plan to return someday.

Retrospective for Mary Rhinelander McCarl at Cove Gallery, 37 Rocky Neck AvenueNovember 27 & 28; Noon to 5 PMOrganized by McCarlโ€™s niece, Gloucester artist Mary Rhinelander, the show will display McCarlโ€™s colorful artwork, from watercolor/gouache to the collages made from her vibrant hand-painted papers. Proceeds from sales of still lives and landscapes will be shared with the Rocky Neck Art Colony and the Childrenโ€™s Programming Fund at the Sawyer Free Library.ย Her bed positioned with a view of Good Harbor Beach, Mary Rhinelander McCarl died at home, on her own terms, late this past spring. From her birth in 1940, she spent some part of every year in Gloucester, eventually retiring to Old Nugent Farm. A polymath with a photographic memory, McCarl excelled at everything she focused her mind on or put her hand to. โ€œShe never stopped working, even during the days immediately preceding her death,โ€ says her niece. Her creativity required only paper, a brush and her imagination.โ€œAs a serious intellectual and scholar, McCarl managed to enliven even the driest of topics,โ€ says her niece. โ€œBut it was in her art practice that she really let go, where she was joyful and unconstrained. The breadth of content on her bookshelves attests to an ongoing and diverse curiosity, but also provides insight into her artistic heroes: Matisse, Hockney and a smattering of Fairfield Porter.โ€At Cover Gallery, 37 Rocky Neck Avenue, Gloucester. Cape Ann and Monhegan Island Vistas: Contrasted New England Art Colonies at Cape Ann Museumthroughย March 16, 2022The growth of two of New Englandโ€™s oldest and most revered summer art colonies is the subject of a special exhibition, on display at the Cape Ann Museum from Oct. 30, 2021-Feb. 13, 2022.The exhibition features works by artists who visited and were inspired by both Cape Ann and Monhegan. Among them are Theresa Bernstein, Walter Farndon, Eric Hudson, Margaret Patterson and Charles Movalli. Monhegan and Cape Ann trace the roots of their respective art colonies back to the mid-19th century and specifically to the years immediately following the Civil War. Summer enclaves which sprung up during that time gave artists the chance to socialize with one another and to work together, sharing ideas, trying out new techniques and critiquing each otherโ€™s work. During the early 20th century, both communities saw a surge of artists, professionals and amateurs, visit their shores. Today, Monhegan and Cape Ann continue to be vibrant regional art colonies of national significance. Learn more atย www.capeannmuseum.org. โ€œCape Ann & Monhegan Island Vistas: Contrasted New England Art Coloniesโ€ was organized by CAM in collaboration with theย Monhegan Museumย in Monhegan, Maine, and curated by art historian James F.
