AnnMarie of The Bandit Kings~Big Shot in The Noise Magazine

AnnMarie at present is with the hot new band, The Bandit Kings. She also sings with another band, Safety.  I have had the opportunity to see AnnMarie on many occasions. Her stage presence is like no other and so full of energy, not to mention the vocals. Most of the time you can catch her with the Bandit Kings at the first part of the open jam and closing the night at the Rhumb Line in Gloucester on Mondays. Check out their website to see where the gigs are and to listen to their songs. They have a couple of CD’s out, and I am happy to say that I have them in my possession.

Vote for a Local Musician!

Gloucester's own Courtney Reid

I wanted to let GMG readers know that one of our own, the extremely talented singer-songwriter, band member, recording artist, etc. etc. Courtney Reid of Gloucester is among the top 10 finalists in the Folger’s Coffee Jingle Contest. Check out her entry through the link below, and, since it is the best of the 10 finalists (no, I’m not biased, I promise), you can vote for it in good conscience. And even if you’re not crazy about Folgers coffee, her jingle just might make you rethink your position. Which is the whole point of a jingle. Just so you know, in order to vote the Folgers website requires you to fill out your name, etc. to make sure you’re a real person casting an actual vote as opposed to a virtual person who is part of a conspiracy to stuff the ballot box, but it will be worth the effort to have Courtney representing!

Quote Of The Week From Greg Bover

"When a man is wrapped up in himself, he makes a pretty small package."

John Ruskin (1819-1900)

An Oxford graduate, Ruskin was the pre-eminent art and achitecture critic of the Victorian and Edwardian eras. His support of then modern painters such as landscapist J. M. W. Turner created much controversy, as did his criticism of others such as James Whistler. Ruskin’s hugely influential books on architecture, The Seven Lamps of Architecture and The Stones of Venice expound on social thought and morality while they dis Classical design and cheer on the Gothic Revival. Many of his ideas on social justice and the importance of work pre-figure William Morris and the Arts and Crafts Movement.

Did You Know? (You’re All Invited!)

That I’m having my first coming out party as a Cape Ann artist on Wednesday, April 13th at Alchemy, and I’d love everyone to come?  I am excited about my exhibit at Alchemy, and the opportunity to meet in person some of the people I’ve connected with virtually through Good Morning Gloucester, as well as see again those I’ve had a chance to meet and get to know in person.  In addition to the art opening, I handed off the completed Did You Know book files at 7:00 morning to Barry Pollock at Cricket Press, and he assures me I will have books in hand by the 13th, so it will also be a kickoff and book signing for Did You Know the book.  This is the chance for those of you who have just been hankering to have a signed first edition of Did You Know to get one fresh off the Cricket Press.  In addition to the books, I will also have some matted prints of my work available for sale.  Did you know that during an Alchemy exhibit, 10% of the proceeds of any art sales go to the Gloucester Education Foundation?  During the opening party, 20% of the proceeds of any matted print and Did You Know book sales will go to the GEF, so come out, have fun, give me the chance to meet and see you, help the GEF, and help me start paying for the rest of the printing of the book.  Also, Mark McDonough, does a great thing for artists with his Alchemy of Art exhibits, so show him some love by filling his place to overflowing.  The only thing I am really sad about, is that Joey C., the person I have most to thank for so many of the wonderful things and people I have experienced since moving to Cape Ann, will be away (he’s on vacation again! I really need to become a lobster broker!), so won’t be able to be there.  Hopefully Manny (the driving force behind the Did You Know book being done in the first place) will be and can capture it on video for Joey to see on GMG.

You saw it first on Good Morning Gloucester!  Have a Good Morning Gloucester (and any where else in the world that you might be right now reading GMG), and a blessed day.  EJ

The Topside Grill is finally opening for the season this Friday!

Hey everyone,

The Topside Grill is finally opening for the season this Friday! We hope everyone had a great winter (stupid snow!), and are now ready for Spring and warm weather. We have completely renovated our entire dinning room this year and can’t wait for everyone to see it! We are expecting a great weekend so we are encouraging people to make reservations for best seating during dinner hours 🙂 hope to see you all there!

We are also featuring new photography by Judith Montferrante and the Good Morning Gloucester photographers all around the restaurant! We also have John Jerome playing Friday night in the bar/lounge/pub. Also, launching my brand new Spring cocktail menu which I am very excited about (new drinks, wine, and beer). See you this weekend!!!

Thanks,

Doug Silva

Thursday night blues party to host Evan Goodrow

THIS WEEK  I’m pleased to present the return of  Mr. Evan Goodreau. Movie star, jongleur, and all-weather breakfast. He sings, he plays, he winks, he drinks. Always gives me a hard time.
Pushing from behind will be that card-carrying time bomb, the redoubtable Forrest “Tucker” Padgett on skins and bones. And,as usual, my foodtaster Greg T. on catarrh and myself on base will be rounding off this agglutination to the nearest neuron.  It’ll be quite entertaining.

Help Joey Choose A Poem To Read At The Library’s Gloucester Reads Poetry Event

I need to find a suitable poem to read as part of Gloucester Reads Poetry: a program of the Gloucester Lyceum, which is the program arm of the Sawyer Free Library.

It’s going to be held April 28, 7 p.m. Sawyer Free Library but I need to get my submission in by April 4th.

So in the spirit of the GMG community I think I’ll open it up to you guys, my peeps to submit poetry suggestions and the one I like best, I’ll read at the event.

The explanation and the reading of the poem should take a maximum of 4 minutes.
