New Face & Voice @ Gimmesound.com- Kory Curcuru
Peter and Vicky Van Ness write-
Dear Joey,
Please allow me to introduce Kory Curcuru — a glosta boy who’s recently returned home from Australia and Hollywood, where he wrote comedy and produced DVD special features for all the major studios. Here’s a picture of him at Sardo’s inBurbank.
Before he abandoned us in 2006 he wrote Gloucester’s funniest book, St. Peter’s Fiasco. You can still get this spoof of the Perfect Storm at Stop & Shop’s dollar table and other fine establishments; and it’s complete with his famous Glostary for those trying to learn how we speak in our fair City.
He’s moved back, bought a house here and has nearly completed his second book about Gloucester.
Vickie and I are lucky enough to have known Kory for over a decade and ecstatic to be working with him now.
Kory is gimmesound’s new talking head. You can see his 1 minute videos showcasing Gloucester’s thriving music scene every day beginning tomorrow (Friday 10/21) at http://gloucester.gimmesound.com
Check it out!

Robert and Pamela Marcaurelle from Ipswich representing at the Good Morning Gloucester Gallery. Robert has been a friend of the blog for two years, and met Joey when he was manning the gate at the Shriner’s Auditorium in Wilmington and Joey was there to photograph the Boston Massacre Derby Girls. He also works in the seafood business at Castle Hill Lobster Co.
As you can probably tell by the way they are dressed and the fact that the gallery is now closed, I am catching up. Sorry Robert and Pamela for this taking so long, but better late than never.

Am I The Only Person That Thinks That Boston Sports Radio Is COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTROL?
I can’t listen to local sports talk radio. They are completely out of control.
I understand it must be difficult to fill hours on end with sports talk but these guys are just an incessant bunch of whining bitches. They are hypocrites and just wayyy over react to everything.
Did it suck to watch the red Sox collapse? Course it did. But the way these guys just hammer away at any little imperfection is BRUTAL.
Wouldn’t it be great if a bunch of pro athletes would start their own radio show and just hammer the bitches behind the mics at the Boston Sports talk radio stations for being completely unreasonable, hypocritical and whiney.
You know how overblown the thing is about the guys having beers in the clubhouse? You don’t think that Kevin Millar was pounding down budweisers in the clubhouse en route to the 2004 World Series? Cowboy Up Kids!

Support for CAP Act
Donna Gacek writes-
Hi Joe,
The interview was great! You are really amazing – do you ever sleep?
Anyway, I’m writing to say that we would appreciate your support in helping
to create awareness about the CAP Act and asking citizens to write to their
senators:
The Community Access Preservation Act (CAP Act), H.R. 1746 was introduced in
May 2011 by Congresswoman Baldwin of Wisconsin and Congressman LaTourette of
Ohio. The passage of this Act is critical for the survival of local
Community Media Centers and local communities. Unlike public
broadcasting which receives a federal appropriation from Congress, community
media does not receive federal or state funding but relies on fees paid by
cable companies through franchise agreements. Additionally, community media
is often the only source of local news and information in many communities.
The CAP Act responds to several immediate threats to public, educational and
governmental cable channels around the country:
It amends the Communications Act so that public, educational and
governmental access funding may be used to support basic operational costs,
including employee salaries;
It reaffirms the principles of the Communications Act that cable providers
should not discriminate, and should treat our members the same as other
local broadcast channels;
It promotes the preservation of public, educational and governmental
channels and ongoing funding from cable providers for local programming,
digital literacy training, public security and workforce development.
Community media provides local programming and services not available by
broadcasters or cable companies. High school basketball games, Board of
Selectman and School Committee meetings, worship services, workshops for
video production, youth programming and local news and information are
critical for our citizens. On average, a local community media center
produces more than 1,100 hours of original local programming each year, with
some centers producing upward of 15,000 hours per year.

The Roseway From Len Burgess
Just Me and My Shadow. . . .♫
The “Soul Machine” show scheduled for this Friday at the Dog Bar has been regretfully canceled due to the critical injuries sustained by drummer and front man Neil Buckley.
Popular local musician was Lynnway crash victim By Thor Jourgensen / The Daily Item
Buckley, of 44 High St., Marblehead, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries following the collision and an explosion that Maes said ejected Buckley from the van.
“There was fire and glass flying everywhere. His car was totally in flames,” Maes said.
She said she handed Yacht Club member John Perry a fire extinguisher and Perry ran out to the roadway and sprayed fire retardant on Buckley.
“John was fabulous. If there was a hero, it was him,” she said.
Ronald McNeil heard the crash and the explosion and ran out of the Lynnway home he shares with his mother and went to the aid of the people in the vehicle that police said collided with Buckley’s van. His mother, Deborah, said her 17-year-old son pulled a woman from the Acura sedan after cutting her free from her seat belt.
“He was very scared,” Deborah McNeil said, “The heat was so intense he couldn’t believe it.”
State Police spokesman David Procopio identified the driver of the Acura sedan as Daniel E. Murillo-Robles, 21, of East Boston. Murillo-Robles was taken to Salem Hospital with serious injuries.
“Criminal charges against Murillo-Robles are possible,” Procopio wrote in an electronic mail statement on Monday.
Buckley is a well-known North Shore musician who has played with and taught fellow musicians for years, said Maes and friends like Victor Fitzgerald.
“He’s a great guy, an incredible musician. He’s been in 100 bands. He’s been down to Nashville,” said Fitzgerald, a Lynn resident who said Buckley’s skills include playing the drums and singing while standing up.
Porthole Pub General Manager Brian Gaudet said Buckley plays with other musicians in the Lynnway restaurant and bar every other month and was scheduled to perform at the Porthole in November. Buckley played last week at the Porthole and Maes said his appearance at the Lynn Yacht Club on Saturday with fellow Soul Machine band members was part of an evening marking the end of the club’s boating season.
“He is a great guy: He lived to do what he was doing,” said Porthole owner Robert Gaudet.
Fitzgerald said he spoke to Buckley about three months ago when Buckley invited him to stay temporarily in his Marblehead home.
From Dr. Nicole
I hope some fellow GMG fans can join us this Saturday in honor of my dear local friend and teacher Richard Boulter who sustained a life threatening spinal cord injury this past winter. So much of the healer that I am today is because of his guidance and support. It is this Saturday at the St Peter’s Club from 7pm-midnight. There will be music, food, raffles and a silent auction. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Contact
Angela Corcoran at 617-320-9780 for more info or to reserve a ticket
Through the love of friends, family and community, Richard is still with us and getting better every day and we are so appreciative of all fundraising support we have already received from the organizations below. If you cannot join us but would like to make a tax
deductible donation in any amount we will gratefully pass it on.
Thanks again to everyone below for your love and help, hope to see you there!
