HAPPY BIRTHDAY ED!!!! Guess The Old Geezers Age!

You know those community people who are always there volunteering to help make all the good stuff happen around town?

Well we’ve got quite a few of them who just so happen to be part of the GMG team but my buddy Ed Collard is ALWAYS the first guy to jump in and volunteer his time to make others enjoy themselves in our community.

I couldn’t even begin to list all the stuff he has helped out on and if I tried to I’d never make it out of the office today.  All done with a smile.  The guy is truly special and I can’t begin to express how lucky I am to have him as a friend and confidant.

So be sure if you see the guy with the porno stash today you wish him a happy birthday.  We will have some breakfast at Passports at 8:45AM and then he will be setting up the lights and buoys on the Lobster trap tree.

Happy Birthday Buddy!

Write how old you think he is in the comments to this post.

Did You Know? (Giles Chapel)

That the Rocky Neck Art Colony voted to undertake preliminary efforts toward purchasing the former Christian Science Church property on Rocky Neck?  At this time there is a fundraising effort underway to enable the RNAC to conduct a Feasibility Study for the Center, and to pay $1000/month beginning on 1/1/12 for the use of the property and toward the option to purchase the property by 1/1/13, or a mutually agreeable extension of time.

A draft mission for the center has been developed as follows:
Owned and operated by the RNAC, a 501©(3) non-profit arts organization, the Center (actual name to be determined) will serve as a central gathering and activities space for the artists, residents, and merchants of the East Gloucester area.

The Center will be the organizational base of the RNAC, and serve its core mission as an arts organization.  In addition, the Center’s mission will be to enable positive community-building through both the arts and non-art-related uses.

The Center will be governed and managed in collaboration with members of the broader community of East Gloucester.

RNAC member, Mary Rhinelander, has generously created and donated 250 signed and numbered linoleum cut and letterpress cards depicting the building, with a brief history on the back.  Originally built in 1877 and then known as the Giles Chapel, it was built as a gathering place for the community and named for founding member, Lydia Giles Wonson.  This lovely card is available at the RNAC Winter Show, 130 Main Street, and can be yours for a donation of $5 toward this fundraising effort.

Wreath-Making Workshop at Essex Shipbuilding Museum – Wednesday, November 30, 2011

Have you ever wanted to make your own wreath with your personal touches, but weren’t sure where to start?  Join us on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 between 4 pm and 7 pm at the Essex Shipbuilding Museum ’s Waterline Center as Susie Talbot, of Forget-Me-Not Garden Services, guides us through putting together and decorating a 20” wreath. Wreaths, different styles of ribbons, dried and live fruit, and an assortment of accent greens will be provided so the wreath you take home will reflect you. Should you have a unique item you wish to use on your wreath, please bring it. We would also appreciate it if you have your own clippers or scissors if you brought them along. Due to the nature of this workshop, space will be limited. Registration charges will be based on the number of wreaths you wish to make. The cost for each wreath is $35. You may register for the workshop by going to www.essexshipbuildingmuseum.org, or calling 978-768-7541 and leaving a message.

Preparing for Sunday’s Christmas Tree Lighting!

TreeDecoration
Nick Curcuru, Cynde Francis & John Van Ness
Decorate the tree at Kent Circle

Gloucester’s Santa Parade begins at the State Fish Pier at 3pm and ends at Kent Circle with music from the North Shore Bell Ringers and the tree lighting at about 4:30pm.

Ringo Tarr has promised snow no matter what the temperature!

Mr_MrsSantaSanta will travel the parade route on a Gloucester fire truck.  Once he gets to Kent  Circle, children can sit on Santa’s lap and meet Mrs. Clause too.

Look for the Pink Elephant along the parade route with AMVETS children collecting unwrapped toys for Toys4Tots.  If you miss the Pink Elephant you can bring an unwrapped toy to Kent Circle.

This year The Docksiders will perform in the parade and at Kent Circle.

Everyone at Kent Circle is invited to sign holiday cards to be sent to our troops overseas.

Free popcorn and hot chocolate at Kent Circle provided by Lobsta Land and The Gloucester Fund.

After the Tree lighting there’s plenty of Music in Gloucester and Cape Ann.  See a complete list of music here: http://www.gimmesound.com/Gloucester.cfm
