Gay marriage comes to Maine: Couples wed when law takes effect after midnight

By NBC News wire services

PORTLAND, Maine – Gay and lesbian couples exchanged their vows early Saturday as Maine’s new same-sex marriage law took effect a minute after midnight.

Among them were Steven Bridges and Michael Snell, who held a commitment ceremony six years ago but wanted to make their marriage official under state law.

"It’s historic. We’ve waited our entire lives for this," said Bridges, a retail manager, who’s been in a relationship with the Snell, a massage therapist, for nine years. Bridges, 42, and Snell, 53, wore lavender and purple carnations on black T-shirts with the words "Love is love."

The Four Legged Faithful ~ The Rhumb Line ~ Tonight ~ 9:30 pm

My head is spinning at all the excellent music right here in our little town alone.
You have to hear The Four Legged Faithful
Tonight ~ The Rhumb Line 9:30
They are a young lively bluesgrass funkyphsycodelic fun band.
A real pleasure to hear and watch…… seriously. IMG_1152

I happened upon this band a while ago.  Being so excited to fit in three bands in one night and hearing just about an hour of each. These young men blew my mind. After reviewing their music I got goosebumps all over again, as when I first heard them. They are totally a must see band.

Listen to the link below and you will see/hear exactly why.

Plunge for Pete – Freezin for a Reason

Good morning Joey

I am not sure you know about and will be covering the "Plunge for Pete" taking place tomorrow afternoon at Good Harbor Beach.  It would be great to get some publicity for this awesome event.  Over 80 people will be plunging into the water at 1PM to raise awareness of ALS in support of a wonderful 27 year old, Pete Frates from Beverly.  Here’s the link to his page.

Happy New Year!

Celebrate the New Year, with a special sparkling wine or champagne

from Savour Wine and Cheese.

Ready to say Good-bye to 2012 and Hello to 2013!

Come to Savour Wine and Cheese, at 76 Prospect St. in Gloucester, to get just the right sparkler or champagne to ring in the new year.

We have unusual sparkling wines, from Italian Brachetto, with its shimmering notes of fresh raspberry to a sparkling Gruner Veltliner that shines with fresh vegetables (and can’t be found anywhere else in the area).

From vintage Cava to great Prosecco (check out the nod to Savour in the Boston Globe), we have it all, including the Adami Prosecco Bosco di Gica, mentioned in the Globe article.

http://bostonglobe.com/lifestyle/food-dining/2012/12/25/bevy-bubbles-toast-new-year/AJAOX29l9XD7aKsyxc4YwL/story.html  ($17.99).

I am also very proud to be offering a magnificent collection of fine Grower Champagnes, from the Thierry Theise portfolio.  From Premier and Grand Crus to Blanc de Blancs and Roses,  these wines are clean and fresh, with fine bubbles, and a subltle complexity found in much more expensive labels, all for $50.00 – $70.00.

We are also offering a few speciality food items we got in for Christmas at 50% off too (like the wonderful Chocolate covered figs, that sing with the Five Vitners Zinfandel or the 2000 Vintage Port)!  So come in and see what you can find to make the end of this year and the beginning of the next something truly memorable.

All the best for great health and prosperity in the New Year.

Sincerely,  Kathleen Erickson and Robert Morgan

I’m in Japan for a couple of weeks so the quote is sent in from Kyoto today.

The Godfather of Punk~ Willie”Loco”Alexander~Tonight at The Rhumb Line’s Blues Party 9:00 pm

Dave Saginario

Dave says,

After a crushing season of shopping for that particularly insignificant other on  your list, why not forget all your woes and amuse yourself to some groovy sounds this Thursday. I’m proud to present that Goodfellow of Punk, Mr. Willie Alexander . Y’all know Willie; he’s mainstay of the local scene and keeper of the flame of vintage roots music. Expect a lot of piano-pounding to the  heartbeat of New Orleans and Memphis.  Joining us will be his longtime guitarist, Mr. Billy Loosigian, one of the best rockers I’ve ever heard. L’il Steevee Chaggaris will be manning the defibrillators. You’re gonna sweat, so bring your own  Diaperene©.

Hey Joey,
I don’t know if you might be interested in telling GMG fans about our children’s book Giuseppe McGuire from Old Boston Town. I have enclosed the press release and a link to the book trailer. Thanks to the panel discussion at the library in Gloucester last month, we decided to go ahead and self publish through amazon. In Book 2, Giuseppe ends up in Gloucester with his friend the Charles River Monster. Look for it in the Spring!
I appreciate your time. Thank you for making GMG such a great source of information for locals and wanna be locals, such as myself.
Many blessings,
Heather Smidt
