Carl Jung Quote of The Week From Greg Bover

June 20, 2013

“Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.”

Carl Jung (1875-1961)

image

The founder of analytical psychology, Jung was born, raised and educated in Switzerland. His mother’s mysticism and his own early experiences with little understood psychological phenomena such as neurosis led him to a life-long study of the mind. In 1906 he met the somewhat older Sigmund Freud and formed a friendship and professional relationship that lasted for many years though they eventually fell out over the nature of the unconscious mind, Jung holding that the “collective unconscious” had a deeper and more powerful effect on the psyche. He was responsible for the development of several core concepts of modern psychology, including extroverted and introverted personalities, archetypes and “individuation”, the process of integrating the conscious and unconscious within one’s self. His theories led to a number of current psychological tools, including the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, a test sorting individuals according to their perception of the world and their decision-making processes. Jung’s studies went well beyond the strictly scientific, including dream analysis, astrology, alchemy, and the occult.

Community Stuff 6/22/13

Hi,
Just wondering if you could let people know about the showing of this award winning documentary about hunger in the US. The event will be held at the Danvers campus of North Shore Community College starting at 6:30 PM on Monday evening, June 24th. It is free and open to the public, although we ask that people attending consider making a monetary donation, or bringing a gift card from a supermarket to benefit food pantries in the area. The Open Door Pantry will be represented, as will many other local food pantries. For more info, please see the attached flyer.

Vivi-Velasco_Jewelry_2013_press5Hello All;

Attached, please find the press release for a very special event at Aquatro Gallery next weekend, Saturday, June 29, 2013 from 5-8 PM.

As part of Aquatro Gallery’s move to a new, expanded location on Madfish Wharf this season, the gallery directors, Adriana Mederos and Stevie Black, have expanded their collection of fine artwork and fine objects for the home and for the body.

Jeweler Vivi Velasco’s work very much fits the overall design ethos and creative spirit fostered by Aquatro – extremely original, limited edition, personable and warm – this is design and art you can live with.

Please join us for this gala event.

Community Stuff 6/22/13

Hi Joe,

It’s been a long time but I do read your blog all the time so feel like I know what is going on with you. I’ve been dealing with some annoying and chronic tendinitis in both hands which has slowed down my writing but something good happened so I thought you might like to use it—my books have received 3 nominations for the 2013 eFestival of Words. If you decide to use it something like this would work:

The 2013 eFestival of Words, an annual celebration of the best in independent publishing, has given three nominations to local author Kathleen Valentine’s books. Depraved Heart: A Novel, which is set on a fictional island off the coast of Cape Ann but which has scenes set in Rocky Neck and during Fiesta, has been nominated for Best Mystery / Suspense Novel. It has also been nominated for The Harvey Award for the Book We’d Most Like to See Made Into a Movie.

Also, her short story, The Whiskey Bottle in the Wall, from the collection The Whiskey Bottle in the Wall: Secrets of Marienstadt, has been nominated for Best Short Story. All the stories in this collection are based on tales she heard growing up in her native central Pennsylvania.

Results will be published on the eFestival of Words Web Site in August. You can read her guest blog post for the Festival here.

Kathleen’s latest book is Volume 3 in her Beacon Hill Chronicles series, The Crazy Old Lady Unleashed.
