The True Few dueled with On the Rise the entire way out to the flag. It was a back and forth battle with both crews gaining their share of small leads. To top it all off, both crews went into the turn at the same time.
The True Few, however, came away with a slight lead thanks to a slick turn from scuttler Joe Balbo. A few strokes later, The True Few built a boat lead, another 100 yards further, the eventual champions extended their lead to three boats. By the time they hit the beach, The True Few turned the championship race from a deadlock at the halfway mark, to a resounding win of more than five boats by the time the race was finished.
Up until 11:30 yesterday morning Debbie Giacalone Kelly was prepared to coach the crew on to victory. But then she got the call that a rower had injured her arm and could Debbie take her place. Debbie hadn’t rowed in 2 years. Her arm’s been bothering her. But she said “Yes” and the rest is history! The crew celebrated at the Dog Bar in style! What a night!
Congratulations to the Oar’Dacious crew!
Here’s where you catch up on everybody’s life since last Fiesta. The Novello family has a new granddaughter, Julianna. Bob Whynott’s last day as City Clerk is today. All the city officials were there talking about next fall’s possible candidates. Steve Maniacci and Jerry Ciolino are doing great at the “West End Sweets”. And on and on…. Good food, good people!
Congratulations to everyone who ran! And a big thank you to the organizers, volunteers, and the GPD!

The rain let up around 5:30 and, although they took FOREVER, the seine boat eliminations were exciting. You can see the Times article here.
Hangin’ with Damon, Jim B, Frank, and other GMG folks was great!
Watch for more photos!
Much thanks to Paul and Beannie Nicastro for the pictures and Erik Spearze for giving me the heads up that they were being put up-

Look for him in the vicinity of Tally’s or the GREASY POLE!

Even with the rain, the former Doyon’s was packed. Father Garaboldi and Father Harrison greeted the participants, young and elderly. Greg Cook’s new baby is adorable. Santo Militello looks healthy and tanned. Tony Testaverde told me about his new Fiesta walking stick that he wants photos of on Friday.
Although the walk from St. Peter’s Square to the end of Beach Ct. was wet, several people followed the statue through the streets to hear Father Garaboldi pray for the fishermen lost this year.
Now we need to pray for sunshine and good weather for the rest of Fiesta!
