Official Statement From Mayor Kirk Regarding Rebuilding The Greasy Pole

I reached out to Mayor Kirk this morning for a statement about the greasy pole.
Here is her response.

The Greasy Pole will be rebuilt. I have already met with members of the Fiesta Committee this morning and assured them the city will be their partner. It will take a community effort though. We need the Fiesta Committee, the Waterways Board and the city to all step up to the financial challenge. The Greasy Pole represents a tradition and culture that we cherish in Gloucester, and we won’t let it vanish.

Regards, Carolyn Kirk Mayor

2011 Sunday Greasy Pole Gloucester Pride and Tradition!

Video From Craig Kimberley-

Craig Writes-

Just before the beach was about to fill up, and the seine boat and greasy pole finals were to begin, I happened upon Gloucester native Dominic Giovinco. I approached him and asked “What does the Fiesta mean to you?” I have to say it was a lucky moment for me and my camera, and for anyone that watches. Then we went into the heritage of the Greasy Pole and being a pole walker. Enjoy this and share alike!

It’s great to have a Nonno on the beach!

My little friend Anna ( her Nonno is Tom Brancaleone) asked to get on the KAOS boat after their win Sunday. Joe Novello, being a nonno himself, scooped Anna up without a second thought. What Anna wants Anna gets!

Absolutely Adorable!

These children were getting antsy as they waited for the parade to start. Keeping clean in  Fiesta whites isn’t easy when you’re a kid. But, under Tally’s where the balloons were being inflated seemed like a great place to hang out.  They posed briefly for my shot. To them, the balloons were much more fun!

Video- Craig Kimberley Captures Sunday’s Seniors 2011 Seine Boat Race

Sunday is the day I spend with the Family, bringing the girls down to the beach to watch the races and greasy pole after covering every aspect I can for the days leading up to Fiesta.

That morning down the dock strolls Craig asking for an assignment for the day.  Knowing that Adam Bolonsky, Sam Sartson and I had devoted a ton of video coverage to Saturday’s Greasy Pole I told Craig that the Parade and The Seine Boats could use some video coverage to round everything out.  I was deep into the editing of three hours of footage that Adam had handed to me from Saturday in between making lobster deliveries to our restaurants and taking out boats and off Craig went.

Fast forward to that afternoon and I was pretty much resigned to watching the Sunday sporting events with the family and not taking the camera out too much except to report the winners via my smartphone so we could beat everyone else to getting the news out.

The Bean up on my shoulders at the PACKED Pavilion Beach yells out “Good Morning Gloucester!”  And she is pointing front and center to the edge of the water directly in front of the Greasy pole.  It was none other than Craig with his Mack-Daddy Camera with “Da Sticka” plastered on it’s side.

A nice feeling knowing I could somewhat take the foot off the gas of the month long Fiesta coverage knowing it was all in good hands with our great team of contributors.

Here is Craig’s Seine Boat Championship video and more-

Jo-Ann Castano took these pics at the Altar going over things with new contributor Craig Kimberly.

One of the best Fiesta happenings!

On Sunday, I was following the parade, and  as I walked up Chestnut St. with all my camera gear, a woman stopped me and asked “Are you a photographer?” with her Italian accent. “Coma taka picture of my family! Have some lasagna!”  She lead me to her beautiful backyard where her family was feasting on Italian food. The woman (her name was Agatha) introduced me to the group and quickly assembled a photo shoot! Her 4 sisters were there, one just in from Italy and another with health issues. I took several photos as she changed the groupings. They graciously asked me to stay for food, but I promised to email the pictures, and was off to the parade.

I’m so glad Agatha stopped me. Special moments like this…that’s what it’s all about!
