Annisquam Village Players announce cast of The Addams Family musical

Directors Terry Sands and Tracie Ewing announced today the cast chosen for the upcoming production of The Addams Family musical that will be performed Aug. 4-9 by the Annisquam Village Players. Tickets go on sale in July.

Based on The New Yorkermagazine, single-panel comic series by Charles Addams, the show takes place in the Addams’ crumbling old Central Park mansion, alive with dark shadows and generations of dearly departed ancestors who simply won’t depart. When teenage daughter, Wednesday, invites her new boyfriend and his painfully “normal” parents to dinner, what could possibly go wrong?

Quite a bit.

As the boyfriend’s tidy, conventional family steps into the Addams’ gloriously morbid world, tensions rise faster than a ghost through the ceiling. Personality clashes spark chaos, dinner threatens disaster, and the evening takes a shocking turn when it becomes known that the young couple are engaged to be married.

Cue the mayhem.

Between the devotedly macabre and tango-dancing Morticia and Gomez Addams – along with their intense teenage children, an eccentric Uncle Fester, a 102-year-old grandmother (who may have outlived reason itself) and a hulking, chiseled butler named Lurch who speaks only in heartfelt grunts and groans – the stage is set for comic catastrophe. But in a good way!

And yet—through zombie ancestors, slapstick torture, and morbid humor — love finds a way. By the show’s end, both families discover that “normal” is relative… and that love conquers even the most haunted hearts.

Yummy Afternoon Respite At Lobsta Land

We enjoyed a late lunch at Lobsta Land on Causeway Street recently. It was a beautiful weekday afternoon so we decided to eat at the bar on the deck. What a great experience! As always, the service was efficient and friendly. I had the panko crusted haddock sandwich (which was on the specials menu) and Jim enjoyed his fish and chips but we relaxed in the wonderful atmosphere most of all. Hope to catch you there sometime! *PS Annie and Squam’s osprey chicks have hatched and are a delight to watch on the osprey cam**

Cape Ann Pride is grateful to the Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation to be able to proudly present sensational vocalist Jessye DeSilva, live, in concert with her band on Sunday on June 14 at 3:30pm in the Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church.  This will be the Foundation’s first celebration for Pride Month in Gloucester’s historic 1806 Meetinghouse and a show you will not want to miss! If we show them a good crowda Pride Month Concert could become an annual tradition.

Here’s a sampling of some unrelated goings on.

New Playground Installed In Bay View

The Gloucester DPW has recently installed new playground equipment in the small neighborhood playground area in close vicinity to the Bay View Fire Station. I am not sure if it has officially opened yet. Perhaps someone can update us all.

2026 Women’s elimination race schedule. This year there will be TWO elimination races to determine which two crews will advance to face the 2026 Women’s Champions: Salty Oars, on Friday night, June 26th.

Elimination races will be held on both Saturday (June 20th) and Sunday (June 21st), with races on both days starting at 10:00AM at Pavilion Beach.
